And get my money back, but I assured her that it was a gift from me. She said she would rather have something else that is more useful.

I think your grandaughter is being very sensible. Although, this was given to her as a gift, she probably feels that she'll only be able to wear the dress for this one special occasion, after which,it would probably end up in her closet, never to be worn again. However, I do sympathize with your feelings, regarding regarding this matter, but, you can look at it this way. You bought this dress for your grandaughters prom and it "will" be worn for this occasion, what she desires to do with it afterwards, should not offend you in any way. But, I do have to state here, that she may not be able to return the dress afterall, I don't know the stores policies on returned merchandise, but a lot of stores do not take back merchandise, after the item has been worn.

We are still discussing this matter and now what is she is going to do, is to go have it dry-cleaned with her money. So, I gave in a told her she could take it back, get the credit for it and WE would purchase something else. She is grandma's first. I was trying to explain to her about Scruples and that this is not acceptable, anyway she still won.
