let's say the clerk gave you change for a $20 and you know you gave her a $10--would you keep it? What if the change for the transaction was the only money you had in the world?

It happened to me a lot of times already and I never failed to return the extra. Why would I buy something knowing that that's the only money I've left in the first place?

I wouldn't keep it. I'll ask her to check again. It happen to me often and I returned the change. If it's the only money I had in the world, I believe I'll still return it. Having temp as a cashier before, I understand that if there is any shortage in the cash box, it will have to be deducted from the cashier's paycheck. She might need the money more than I do. Moreover, integrity to me is more important.
