I live in Africa, and we grew up to know there are such mystical things as witchcraft. My mother used believe every malaria we would suffer from was a spell of witchcraft from our family enemies. I have read West African books and watched their movies-there are so many references to witchcraft which gives you the feeling such experiences are there in real life. But I hear so little about wichcraft in USA, Canada, Europe and parts of Asia. The only place I hear about this topic is China, where I am told they can do magical things! The question remains, Is witchcraft a global thing?

Witchcraft most certainly does exist and worldwide....there are numerous Witches and Wiccans (a modern version of the old ways) in the USA, Canada and as far as I know the UK as well.....I am a Witch (old world) as are some of my family members and friends both here in the U.S where I currently live AND in Canada whre I am originally from.... One thing I must point out though is that Witchcraft, Wicca and anything along those lines is NOT a bad thing by ANY MEANS...so please dont think that we are violent, evil, or anything like that..because that just isnt true...Hollywoods version of Witches is make believe and nothing like what real Witches and Wiccans are about..

It seems to me that the understanding of the word Witch varies from cultre to cultre. Ravenladyj, publicly announing that you are Witch in my country if you are really one, would have been unthinkable! Unlike in your part of the world, Witches especially in Africa dont mean well for anybody-theirs is to send a bad spell that targets life and its complete annihilation-A witch that does not have along list of people he has caused to die does not have a high place in the world of witches!

Europe certainly has a very colourful history of Witchcraft. in Corwall there is a wonderful museum dedicated to the subject and to taking care of historically important Witchcraft artifacts.
