What type of hankerchief do you use?

This topic came to me while I was ironing my hankerchiefs, bit old fashioned I know but when you have a streaming nose I think cotton hankies are kinder to your nose and the environment as you can obviously re-use them? I think my habits came from my father who used to tell me that he had to take a clean hanky with him to school everyday else he would get told off! What do you use and do you feel it's easier just to use paper tissues?

I don't often use hankies any more, unless they're gifted to me. I tend not to buy them myself, and use Kleenex tissues mainly. I find Kleenex are kinder to my nose than most brands.
It's odd you should start this discussion just when I've gotten over a bad cold. lol. The Vaseline has come in handy too, overnight. ha ha ha

Glad to hear you are getting over your cold now! I've tried the balm ones in the past and I suppose depending on the intensity of your cold then they are not too bad, I just prefer my old style hankies! Brightest Blessings!

To be honest I don't use handkerchiefs any more, I remembered years ago we always used to get handkerchiefs at Christmas that and soap on a rope LOL. I much prefer paper tissues, the mansize kleenex much more favourable and besides I always thought handkerchiefs were very unhygenic, with a paper tissue once you have blown your nose you can get rid of it, with a handkerchief you are carrying those germs around with you! Especially if you have a real blocked nose and you have, well you get my drift ;0)

LOL thanks for your graphic comment! You've just taken me back 20 years when you mentioned soap on a rope, my brother at the time was about 17 and he had a friend buy him a soap on a rope for Christmas we didn't half take the p*** out of him for that! Thanks!

In regards to handkerchiefs, well I do not personally use them at all, but my husband always used them, especially when he goes out he likes to put one of them in his pocket and it does look a lot better using a handkerchief when you are at a restaurant or some other place like that.

Yes they always come in handy for that inevitable nasty sneeze when you are out! I suppose they could have other uses too like freak369 suggested, use them as a hat! Thanks for responding!

I actually use tissues with aloe vera and they are quite nice and soft against the face. I used to have hankies (with embroidery on them) but don't use them anymore.

I tried those Aloe Vera ones too, and they seemed to make some difference, but I still feel old fashioned hankies are softer to you nose! Thanks for your input!

I stopped using handkerchiefs a long time ago now, and use the paper tissues instead. I had a large collection of handkerchiefs thanks mainly to my Nan, who insisted on giving me these for birthdays and Christmas.

I tend to use paper tissues, but I imagine when I have a bad cold a hankie would be a lot better. I might have to try that the next time I need to use it a lot. Paper tissues are much more convenient though, if you just need something on the go.

Yeah I'll agree with you, hankies can be more convenient, and ok for day to day. A cold is bad enough as it is without adding a really sore red nose into the bargain. Would definately recommend it!

I have tons of them but I wear them on my head LOL. My brothers used to use them and get teased by their friends, that is of course until someone sneezed and didn't have any tissue. Then they would put theirs out, wave it at them and laugh.

LOL I suppose that's one use for them if you prefer not to use them but keep getting given them as prezzies! Thanks!

Please don't take offense my good friend to what I am about to type! I only use kleenex (or any disposable tissue) after having had a mircrobiology class that showed us what was maintained on the hankies! Ha! I also do cold-water laundry so I would need to switch to hot-water laundry if there were dirty hankies involved! With a kleenex, one can sneeze the germs into the kleenex and fold it and dispose of it, never having touched the sneezed droplets. Whereas with a hankie, one has to take it out repeatedly and fold/refold it...thereby touching and then transferring those germs to everything that one touches after the hankie!

I use kleenex. I have never used a hanky before. I tend to carry a couple of tissues around in my pocket every day. I would think the handy would be too much of a bulge in my pocket and would look a bit strange. Tissues aren't very environmentally friendly.

Yes I suppose a bulge in your pocket would look a bit strange, but just think of the bin fuls of tissues you're wasting! Thanks for your input!
