I've Got Gas...

United States
April 6, 2007 2:18pm CST
and I had to pay through the nose for it. We just got gas this morning and it broke our budget. I'm really not kidding. It was $3.05 for regular unleaded here. If it keeps rising like this, we may have to take out a second mortgage. Just kidding. But seriously...what are gas prices where you are? Are you driving less? How are you compensating for the price of this outrageous necessity?

don't even get me started! we just keep paying and not complaining to our senate, and our district leaders! when they get sick of hearing about it, they might do something. i seriously believe that now that the "winter" heating season is over with, they can jack up the gas prices, because they don't want to have you pay both high prices at once. its a monopoly. Last fall the media and wallstreet said that oil could get so low, that the price of gas could get to 1.18 again. what a bunch of liars.

I hear you loud and clear. I think our congressional leaders are hearing us, they just don't care, because we are paying for their gas.

Right now I am paying about 2.75 a gallon for regular. Me and my partner have 2 cars, and it seems like we are putting gas every other day. We both work about 25 mins from home, and it is really getting anoying to have to put 25 into the car every other day. America really needs to come up with something to reduce our dependance on foreign oil. I read somewhere that Brazil is completely self reliant on fuel. i believe that they are using corn as an alternative fuel.

I heard that as well; about Brazil using some type of corn additive/fuel. We certainly need to do something to reduce our dependancy gas. I wish I had the solution. It really can eat up your budget putting $50 into your autos every other day, can't it. Thanks for your input.

If our gas went back to down to 3.05 per gallon everyone would be at the pumps, filling up, thinking they were basically stealing it! Our gas is 3.26 a gallon here, in a small northern California town. It is ridiculous. I am lucky I don't have to commute very far for anything, except shopping, which I plan on doing only once a week. It is crazy-and I have heard that it is going to continue to go up.

Oh my! I fear that is where ours is headed to here in Southern Oregon. It it tough. I heard it is supposed to continue to climb all summer. Even though, the price of fuel oil per barrel just went down. Hmmm, our government at work.

Wow! I think the gas companies are making a fortune off of all of us. We paid $2.95 today for regular unleaded and it is supposed to take another raise tomorrow. I did a discussion at which I posted a link for a map that showed the prices of gas all over the US and it is amazing how the prices vary.

I'm in Northern Illinios and got it stuck to me to the tune of $2.79 a gallon today. Reading some of the other posts here I shouldn't be complaining. Yesterday it was only $2.69. Am I crazy in thinking the oil companies want to rake in the extra money because it's a holiday weekend? I remember a couple years ago when I was angry over $1.87 a gallon, now I wish it was that "cheap". We've started trying to cut down on our driving, but it's hard to do where we live, and now that we have soccer practice and games on differing nights of the week I fear it will only get worse. Unfortunately our soccer league did computer generated teams this year instead of grouping the girls by location, so car pooling is out.

Wow, ours did a .10 jump in one day too. It stinks. Yes, you do have the responsibility of driving and keeping up withthe kids activities. I think that is important, especially for them. It just makes it harder on the budget. But, if you can cut driving in other areas, then hopefully it will all work out. Hugs.

Wow, I almost feel bad for complaining. I can't imagine $4.00 a gallon. Just think how much money all those oil companies are making off of us. Yep, it's time to get in shape. Thanks for the response.

Its 92p a litre here in Wales, thats about $1.80 a litre in US money I think. So ours costs a lot more. Its really important not to drive more than absolutely essential, I think this is why the governemen taxes fuel so highly, and I do love it when I can go a few days without needing teh car at all.

We don't drive more than we have to either. Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. That is awful expensive.

I am currently un-employed so I dont go out unless I have to. It now takes about 2 weeks to go through a tank of Gas. Now to answer your question I have seen gas as of yesterday I saw one station with 12.85 per gallon and at BJ's they had Gas for 2.73 so who knows what is up.

No way...Not $12.85 per gallon? Surely you meant $2.85. $12.85 would be horrifying. Thanks mirage. I appreciate your input.

I got gas last week for regular it cost $2.57 but as I got it at the Kroger store gas station I got 10 cents discount off each gallon with my Kroger card.

That's not too terrible, considering other places. My friend fills up at Costco with her card and gets a discount as well. We don't have one of those personally. Every .10 a gallon off helps. Thanks for sharing my friend. I appreciate it.

mini cooper - good on gas!
I paid $2.48 the other day, so I am not sure what it is right now. I drive a mini-cooper that is excellent on gas, so I usually only have to fill it up every 2 weeks or so.

I love how those mini coopers look. They are adorable. I didn't realize they get that good of gas mileage though. That's wonderful. Seems as though your gas is still high, but more reasonable than many places. Thanks for sharing and for your input my friend.

The price of gas is absolutely outragious. I aggree with you 100% creative. My husband and I do drive less now to make the gas last longer which is sad, but you do what you got to do I suppose.

It is really sad that these "fat cats" can drive around in their limos and fly their jets, but the common everyday working man, has to choose what to "cut out" of their life, in order to be able to afford the gas to continue going to work. Thanks Purple. You are great.

3.05 thats terrible..it was 2.69 here in PA yesterday...hopefully it wont go up..we have already cut down on our driving...we had to cut out going out to eat and spending less on groceries to compensate for needing to pay for the gas...

Us too, I have started using coupons again, which I haven't done since my kids were young and at home, just to save some money in other places. The prices are insane and they just keep on skyrocketing. Thanks for chiming in lightningMD. I appreicate it.

I'm from Australia and we are paying anything from $1.30 to $1.40 here at the moment. I can't get over the price you are paying, that is downright daylight robbery. There is no excuse for charging the public that much.
• United States

I remember the days of $1.30 and $1.40...it's been a while though. I even remember when gas was under a dollar a gallon. It is highway robbery. You are right, there is no real excuse, especially when the oil companies are posting PROFITS in the billions of dollars. Give the working man a break, I say. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

It is unrealistic to expect the everyday person to be able to afford to drive this keeps happening. Thanks for you input about where you are. I don't know how to figure that out into gallons either.

We are up to $2.76 a gallon. I try to get the most out of my trips. If I go into town to pick up the grandson from school, I leave earlier so that I can go shopping. But, even so, you always have that unexpected trip come up that you can't always figure in.

That's true, and when you have responsibilities you can't just stop driving because of the price of the gas. That is where they have us trapped. Thanks as always my friend for your input.

Oh, I don't envy you having to gas a U-haul at these prices. Those things are guzzlers. I've heard the prices are supposed to continue to climb throughout the summer. It isn't right, and I get so mad about it, especially when the oil companies profits are in the billions.

The gas prices here are at about $2.70 a gallon right now.I normally would take my bf to work and than go do my shopping....but that requires me to have to drive back home...run to the store and go back to pick him up.Now I just wait until he gets home and than go do my shopping....that helps save a little bit. We are actually thinking about getting a Motorcycle...now that would help save a lot of gas and my bf would be happy....because he likes to ride anyways. The thing that bugs me the most about the high gas prices is....the oil companys make million dollar profits every year and it doesn't seem right that our hard earned money goes to them for something we got to have to even get to work.

not only is the gass high soon everything else will be also since it is all delivered by trucks(even food) that must use gas this is going to have a bad effect on the economy !
