Mine use MaMa (I prefer the spelling Momma) for my mine. The first grandchild started it and it was continued with the rest. You may find that no matter what you intend to be called, your grandchild has the final decision LOL. My parents started out as Grandma and Grandpa but once my nephew started talking he couldn't say the whole word. (He also doubled every word he did say:cup-cup, hi-hi, up-up, go-go) So they became MaMa and PaPa. It was habit by the time the other grandchildren were born. (plus as a bonus many moms use this too so strangers could mistake you for the mom instead of the "old grandma")

My MIL is very hip and young and only wanted to be referred to as "grammy". I like that too. As for my FIL, he was "grand dude"!! LOL!!!

My kids refer to my mom as "grammy", it sounds so sweet when they say it. My MIL just goes by "grandma" for whatever reason, but my 17 month old son calls her "nana." Good luck finding a modern name to suit you, and congratulations on the new addition!!

Thanks! This might sound funny, but you know when you're at a park or in any other public place and you hear a kid say "mom" or "mommy" ?? I look! even when my own kids aren't with me....that's kind of why I'm looking for something different. And....I always thought "grandma" just sounds "old"

Congratulations on becoming a grandma! What about Gram? I also like grammy and nana. If you don't want to be so proper with your grand children, you could be grandma and your first name, instead of grandma with your last name. My kids call my mom grandma kay. kala is her first name. they call my mother in law grandma bennett, bennett being her last name. have fun with your new addition!
