Makeup at age 8? I don't think so!

My oldest daughter is 8 years old and is really into the makeup thing. Although I will let her wear it for dress up at home, I will not let her wear it in public (except maybe sheer lip gloss). She gets so mad at me for not letting her wear dark red lipstick to the store...I don't think so! What are your thoughts on wearing makeup? What do your children or grandchildren do to show you they are supposedly "all grown up"? How do you handle the arguments?

When I think about it, I have never been very clear why any woman wears make-up. I mean, when did all that start?
When did it become a "way of life" for women to put things on their face?
Most women are quite beautiful without it and seem to be taking a step backwards by using makeup.

My daughter is 6 and she plays with makeup at home too. I don't think I would ever let her leave the house with it on. She has lots of her own lip gloss and when she puts it on she just shines like she is all dressed up =) It makes her feel all pretty...I owuld just tell your daughter that she is too little to wear red lip stick to the store =)

I have a 13 year old and a 9 year old stepdaughters. they are my husbands kids and there mother is starting to let the 13 year old wear makeup now which is an alright age I think as long as it isn't over done. she does not want the 9 year old to wear it, so I bought some play makeup for her for at my house because she really wants to wear it and when she comes over I let her use mine to put it on me and this helps out alot with her wanting to wear it...Once in awhile I will slip some of my blush on her and she is totally excited about that, it is hard when you have two girls so close so this is just what I do that helps alot
