do you think that it is advisable for children to access the internet and to create their own e-mail ids?

My daughter has been accessing the internet and has her own email for about 6 years now, but there are some guidelines that we standby in order for her to do this. The main ones are that we can check her email at any time if we feel it is neccessary and we have the computer in the Livingroom where we can monitor what she is viewing, following those simple rules I can say we have had no problems with her email or internet use.

thats a nice thing. its a must that the children be monitored, otherwise they may end up doing something which they should not do.

The internet is a very vast place and children could get sucked into it easily. I like the idea above of having the computer in the living room so that the child could be monitored. I know that if I have kids, I would REALLY monitor her internet time. There are a lot of perverts in the internet these days.

my 12yr old has her own email id. for about 2 years now. but i very closely moniter what sites she visits and who she gets email from and sends email to. plus the parental control settings that my ISP offers. the internet can be a great tool for homework, but it must be monitered carefully. too many children get pulled into situations they shouldnt be in.

I think children should be given the freedom to create their ids. They should also have the freedom to post their thoughts on the net. They have the same rights as any other human.
