As some of you might now I am working as a supporttwchnician for people with ADSL and broadband.
I am amazed each day on how much people actually value their internet. Today for an example.. We are open but really didn´t expect it to be busy... We guessed wrong. people are like crazy.. caling in coz their mailserver has gone down.
Don´t people have something better to do when it is easter then to sit in a phoneline for an hour or so?
I know for a fact that I would not do it. the weather is lovely here today and if i didn´t have to work I would spend the day with my family - NOT infront of a computer thats not working =) *lol*

i admit, i am one of those people who get annoyed when the server isn't working. everytime i log in and surf the internet, i expect that my internet line if okey. however, it does not happen all the time. and whenever it's down, i get so annoyed. but i don't call my provider for assistance. for as long as i know i have paid my monthly internet bill, i just thought that something might have just gone wrong. i just wait for the internet to come back. and while waiting, i do something else worth of my time than sitting infront of the computer wasting my energy getting annoyed.
good day marie.

I give you credit for your sound reasoning, but on the flip side of the coin, your loss of connection may not be related to a down server, but malfunctioning hardware on your end. And if that's the case, a phone support technician is there to help you troubleshoot to determine the cause of the outage when it's not network related. So sometimes waiting for the ISP to work out the network kinks is just going to get you more frustrated when a day or two later the issue isn't resolved.

Lol, I know for a fact that if my internet wasn't working, there is NO way I would have been sat indoors in a phoneline for an hour or more.
The weather here is a little unpredictable at this time of the year with sunshine and heavy rains too, so we tend to make the most of it while it's available lol.
Most times when the servers go down, we have to wait anyway, so calling in really isn't going to make much of a difference. Might as well sit back and find something else to do for a while lol.

I do not envy you the job, it is quite amazing what absurd questions the average people ask simply because they have bought a new computer and have no idea how to use it. A friend of mine recently bought a new computer from Dell and had broadband connected. He was supplied with the modem and an installation CD, but he could not use the internet until the weekend when I had the time to go round and set it up for him.
I am happy to help out friends whatever the level of problem, but to answer the telephone all day and answer petty questions must be very frustrating.

i wish i could get DSL instead of cable. I know cable is faster but comcast is a ripoff and if i could get DSL i'd get rid of cable completely and get satellite tv. But yeah when the weather is nice i try to spend more time outside then on the computer.
