Removing a candle from a jar

...without leaving any waxy residue. I'm doing some "cleaning out" and found a half burned candle in a pretty round antique looking jar. I don't want the candle anymore but I remember that I actually bought it so I could use the jar afterwards. How do I get the 3 inches of candle wax out and get rid of the residue?

Seems like I read somewhere that putting the jar in the freezer for about an hour will do the trick - it loosens the wax and it should pop out once it's good and chilled. I've never tried it though... Ooh, here's a link I found for you with several ideas (already mentioned here, but in detail): http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Wax-out-of-a-Jar-Candle

As one person pointed out putting it in the freezer is the best way. Once it's chilled for a while it will usually pop right out unless your glass is odd shapped. I have some that are tapered and although it wants to come out I still have to use a knife to help pry it past some points. It depends on the shape and how they candle melted. Overall though once they have been in a freezer for a while they do shrink and make it easier to remove in general.

Mission accomplished! Thanks everyone. I froze it for an hour and then cut the wax in fourths. The glass jar was much narrower at the top and this allowed for me to pop it all out! Yeah!

I would boil it so it is all loose and easily removed. Or freeze it and it will be brittle and be easy to remove in another way. It depends on which you would prefer to do. Depends on the size of the openng also. Good luck with this and hopefully you will let us know what you did and how it worked!!

If you don't want the candle anymore , have you tried pourting hot water into it , to melt it , this should make it easier to take out , you will still have to wash it out but this should soften it up to help get it out of the jar . This is about all I can think that you might be able to do . Best of luck !!

How about if you boiled some water in a pot and then put the jar in the hot water? When the candle wax melts.........just pour it out! What do you think? Would that work?

the best way i know to remove the candle residue would be putting hot water in the jar. i just hope your jar can handle that much heat. hot water eases your cleaning since you don't have to do the messy scratching to remove the residue. c",)
