There are certain foods that cats and dogs should never ever eat, but for the most part they can eat a lot of human foods that are also good for them. I think it's just easier for the owner to give them tinned pet food, plus there are usually added vitamins and minerals which human food would lack unless you added it yourself. It's a lot of work!

I read an article which said that there are certain foods that have been known to cause damage to pets. Tuna on a regular basis is surpose to cause a B1 deficiency. Rhubarb, dairy products, spinach, nuts, and beets are surpose to cause bladder/kidney stones in dogs.Onions and chocolate is surpose to kill dogs.I got this information at askvet.com
I am not saying that everyones pets will die or become sick. I am just saying that is what the article read.

In doing some research for a post of my own some days ago (http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/954675.aspx) I learned that the pet food industry hass decieded that the human food ws not good for pets. Before pet food became so popular human food was what was given to the animals. When I was a kid our cats were expected to hunt for part of their food and we just suplamented it with left over. We also fed our dogs left over from the table and had dog food for when we had few left overs.
we never gave our dogs chicken oe turkey bones. because we feared they would puncher their intestines

Animals like cats and dogs have always been able to eat regular food.
Dogs will eat nearly anything, but love meat of course.
Cats may be a bit more picky, but if humans can eat it then animals definitely can too.
