Do you suffer from depression? If you suffer from depression, do you take antidepressants?

I've been on antidepressants for years now. I have tried so many that I have lost track. I was finally diagnosed as being bipolar several years back, and the depression is a part of that chemical imbalance in my brain. So now I have other pills on top of the antidepressants. I hate it. I hate taking all these medications. I have even tried natural remedies, but they haven't worked either. There are many different levels and catagories of depression, and what works for one person may not work on another. It is really an individual disease.

I suffer from major depression, among other things. I take Paxil and it pretty much works for me. Antidepressants are not a cure all, but they do help. When I first started out, it was hard to find a medication that suited me. For me, I always got the unbearable side effects. But I didn't give up until I found something that would work for me. My depression was causing me to hav problems sleeping and the Paxil helps that. With the internet, it made things a lot easier for me. Before I take anything now, I look up all the prescribing information, because the psychiatrist is not going to tell you everything. Medication, combined with therapy helps a lot. But, like I said it is not a cure all and my relationship with Jesus is what ultimately gives me hope and keeps me going.

Hello Rozie, thank you for sharing your story. I think it helps to know that we are not alone. Do you find that people are quick to judge you knowing you suffer or quick to judge you maybe not knowing you suffer?

I don't but I used to, and took paxil for it. That was years ago though. I get down sometimes but nothing I feel is unusual or that I need to me on a medication.
