I'm Considering Kicking the Habit the Herbal Way!

I have decided that I'm going to give up smoking. Yes, I know I can do it using willpower alone if I really put my mind to it, as I have before, but I've been looking into the use of herbs to aid me through the anxiety of the initial period, as opposed to drugs, or nicotine substitutes. There are three main reasons I want to give up smoking. The first is that gradually, smoking is being stopped in all public places, the pubs being next, on 1st July this year. Secondly, cigarettes are becoming increasingly expensive, mainly due to government taxing. Thirdly, and most importantly, smoking is damaging my health to such an extent that my life could be cut a deal shorter if I continue. In addition, there isat another reason, in that a special friend has been nagging me for a while now to give up, albeit for my own good, but I'd like my friend to know that I appreciate this and that they played quite a big part in my decision. Anyway, I've been researching the herbs that can be used for this and although you can make your own potions and teas and the like: ***unless you know exactly what you're doing and are well up on herbal knowledge, then please leave well alone, because some herbs are dangerous if used in anything but very minimal amounts. They're not to be messed with*** If you want potions, teas or capsules, I would advise you, if seeking herbal remedies to contact a herbalist; you can probably find one in your local Health Food Shop, or find a local Herbalist. There are plenty of suppliers online and lots of advice too, and the main herbs helpful for giving up smoking are as follows: Avena Sativa,Garcinia Cambogia,Gotu Cola, Skullcap,Valerian,Parrot's Beak,Willow,Oak,Oregon Grape Root and Goldenseal. I will also share a couple of suppliers I found online. Here you can find capsules, extracts and teas, which are expertly produced: If in the U.K... http://www.homeherbs.co.uk If in the U.S.A... http://www.wholesalesupplementstore.com Some might argue that herbal remedies won't work but I have great belief in the healing power of herbs, not for just kicking the habit but for all manner of other things and I just thought I would share this with you. Thank you for your time and I would love to hear some of your views on herbal remedies. I'm convinced through previous trials but are you?

Hi Darkwing. I'm afraid there is no way I can give you advice for quitting smoking, since I never started, but I do wish you a not-too-difficult and successful withdrawal. The only "medication" I take is Glucosamine Sulphate. I haven't been to a doctor since mine retired about 15 years ago. I haven't even had a cold for about 40 years. I resist even taking a paracetamol, but since I never get headaches, it doesn't happen very often that I need to: maybe just once or twice a year for my fingers. If I had any problems I would see a naturopath and/or an iridologist and I would take herbal remedies. Keep us posted with your success story. I'm sure it will be successful.

Good on you hun for deciding to quit. I have been smoke free for almost three weeks now although I am going cold turkey. I wish I had thought of using herbal alternatives before, I know Valerian is very good as is Willow Bark. Please let us know how you get on, and I wish you all the very best.

Awwww.. thank you so much Goth and congratulations on your three weeks of being smoke free. I went cold turkey last time... gave up for six and a half years, but alas, I started again. Now, I've decided to give up for good. If nobody else is smoking in public, it should be a mite easier, don't you think? lol. Thank you again and please accept a + for a very rapid and quality response. Brightest Blessings.

Sensible thinking Gabs. You know you need to give it up but you have to really be ready to and WANT to give it up, be it on medical instruction or just to strive for better health than you have. If you're not ready, you won't be able to do it, so it's best to wait for the right time, which is when you're sure you're ready. I'm sure you'll be more successful in that case. Brightest Blessings, my friend.

Really dude may God help you in your descision as its a very nice one to kick off that habbit. One thing for sure I would like to tell you is that kicking the habbit is not a childs play and really no herbal or any kind of remedy can help you in doing it. Its only you and you who leave it and your desire to leave it can help. Nothing else is more helpful. I am saying it cause I used to be a chain smoker muyself. But my girlfriend gave me the strength to drop the habbit. Any Ways Take Care May GOD Bless YOU

I realise that, Raphael. I know I have to want to give it up and use my willpower but the herbal remedies help control the stress and withdrawal. Thank you for your response and good wishes, my friend. I'm giving you a + rating. Brightest Blessings.

Not yet, my friend. It's been a bad time for a while, but things are gradually sorting themselves out and turning around, so I'm considering attempting it again, very soon... you must be psychic! I've looked into the herbs which are best, and I'm also doing a herbal course. So, when I get my money into Paypal, I will be buying these herbs, and I guess, 30th April will be a great time to get started... I'll keep you up to date. Thank you for your continued support, my friend. Brightest Blessings.

I see this discussion is months old now my friend and I am wondering if you managed , I truly hope you did ,Smoking in public places was banned here in Scotland almost 1 year ago now , it has made my life a lot easier as I have asthma. My hubby has not long gone through a triple bypass operation and this was all caused by smoking since he was a young man , he did stop 18 years ago but he had been smoking since he was about 12 , , that was 20 odd years , anyway he will need more ops but his heart has given him no probs since , as you know I have started the diet you so kindly sent me and I bought green tea , I bought mint as I heard it was really good for the digestion , please can you tell me the correct way to drink it , I made it quite strong and I had to leave it to cool quite a bit as I thought it quite disgusting , but I will persevere if you think it will benifit me , thanks again , I am enjoying the diet xxxx

Sorry, I left out that you shouldn't stir the tea to brew it, as this will make it cloudy and bitter. If you add a sweetener, stir it after lifting out the tea. :)

An infuser is a little, perforated container, often ball or acorn shape, into which you put tea leaves when brewing tea. Thus, you end up with tea-leaf free tea when you lift out the infuser and empty the dregs into your compost bin.

good luck on your stopping smoking issue. my husband stopped smoking straight away, without any aid at all. willpower, his reason. and he's off smoking now for 3 years. he gained weight not because he stopped, but because i cook and feed him well, lol! good luck! all the best.

Well done, your husband. Yes, I did it through willpower alone before but although this can be done, one tends to still crave for quite a time and become anxious and stressed with the withdrawal. The herbs will help in this instance rather than with the actual giving up. Would you like to come and cook for me? lolol. Thank you for a great and positive response for which I'm awarding a + rating. Brightest Blessings.
