At what age do children finally stop believing in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus? How did you handle telling them the news? Were they devasted or did it just roll off their back?

My children never believed in the Easter bunny nor the Teeth Fairy. I have always been honest with my children so I didn't tell them that there was an Easter bunny. They do get things for Easter but I usually just give them gifts. We have an Easter egg hunt but they know that I hide the eggs. I never told them that there was a tooth fairybut have given them money for their teeth. I was thankful that I did it that way because my brother allowed them to watch a movie that would have scared them if they did believe. My children do however believe in Santa Claus. They know that I am their Santa. Not a fat jolly man at the mall. I have explained to them that Santa is a person who gives gifts without expecting anything in return to all the good children.

Hindsite is always 20/20 or so they say. I wish that I would have done the same. It is a let down to know that what they have put their faith in for such a long time, is no more than a fairy tale! thanks for the response!

I have a 1 and 2 yr old and they still believe in the Easter Bunny. We are doing ours on the 12th because hubby got a turkey for me to cook and isn't off until then. So we are going to be dying eggs on the 10th and then will hide them on the night of the 11th. Plus it will give me a chance to save on all of the stuff for the baskets.

I don't think that kids believe in the Easter bunny anymore unless they're heavily sheltered. Even if we tell them there is one, the kids in their school will tease them and tell them otherwise. I can't understand why little kids get a kick out of ruining the special Easter Day with that piece of truth.

thats' exactly what happened to my 9 year olds. They came home, asked and I couldn't lie to them. Childhood is becoming shorter and shorter...what a shame
