Why are nerds unpopular?

Have you ever wondered about this? How come it's always the cheerleaders that are popular? Why not the kids who are smart and have an I.Q. of 150? I may not be exactly a nerd but I do well in academics so people just scream at me "nerd, nerd, nerd!" I tried going in the Student Council once but was never voted in. I guess it was because I wasn't popular. What do you think? Is it because they're not beautiful or something?

I wouldn't regard myself as a geek, but as more intelligent than most, however it is the sporty side of me that gets more friends, and ones that i enjy more, i believe it is because people who are sporty do not focus on the other aspects of education and 'nerds' do not focus on sport sa much, also sporty people seem to keep up with fashion and therefore are more noticible, this makes them more streetwise which in life seems to either get you friends or not, the cooler you are perceived to be the more you will be respected, i feel the best way is to be clever and sporty.
