The Haunted Railroad Crossing

Back in the late 1930's or 1940's, a school bus full of children was making it's way down the road, toward the intersection, when it stalled on the railroad tracks. A speeding train crashed into the bus, killing 10 of the children and the bus driver. Since that dreadful accident many years ago, any car stopped near the tracks will be pushed by unseen hands across the track to safety. It is the spirits of the children, they say, who push the cars across the tracks to prevent a tragedy and fate like their own. Even today, cars line up at the haunted intersection to see of the legend is true. The driver stops the car some 20 to 30 yards from the tracks and puts their car in neutral gear. Some even turn off their engines. And sure enough, even though it appears that the railroad is on an upward grade, the car begins to roll forward. Slowly at first, then steadily gaining speed, seemingly of it's own accord and against gravity - up and over the tracks - every time. But that's not all. The second half of this legend is that if a light powder, like talcum or baby powder, is sprinkled over the car's trunk and rear bumper, tiny fingerprints and handprints will appear - the prints of the ghost children pushing the car. Many who have tried it swear that indeed they can see the evidence of small children's handprints in the powder. Creepy, isn't it? I got chill on top of chill writing this.

Oooo. I've had strange things happen to me in the past. I haven't caught anything on video or film, or tape, though.

That is probably one of the sweetest "ghost story" I've ever heard. Thank you for sharing it with us! I would love to go there and see it happen but I would feel bad trying it myself. The whole time I would be feeling bad for these little children pushing my vehicle and being afraid for me. The are probably doing it because they are afraid that anyone who stops there will also be killed. I would hate to worry them more just because of my own curiosity. Maybe someday a car really will be in danger and they will be able to save it. Maybe that will finally bring them peace.

Yeah, I agree with you. I wouldn't be able to do it, and I do hope that they one day find peace. You're very welcome. I enjoy sharing these things with myLot friends. =)

That is creepy. I think I saw something about that on a show, not exactly but similar. Either way though it is a creepy story. Where exactly is it supposed to take place? Might be interesting to check it out sometime and see what happens.

Hmm. I'm not really sure. All I know is that it's in San Antonio. Maybe you could ask the locals, I'm sure they'd give you directions.

I know that I earn the ire of so many if I give my thoughts on this. This is one of those times when it will be best for me to keep my mouth shut. Anyway, it is true that so many will be aghast and shocked to hear of stories of this type. There are some of us though who entertain different thoughts and ideas on this matter. Whereas, scientists will tend to undertake studies in order to explain everything, mine will be to keep my mouth shut on this touchy topic.

I didn't write for the shock factor. I wrote it because I find these things interesting, and I research more about the stories and stuff, and I want to share them with everyone else on myLot. You could always choose not to read these discussions..

I don't find it that creepy really. Nice children, nice children, indeed. Feel sorry for them, though. But they still have " heart ". Nice to know.

The paranormal always creeps me out... But yeah, it is nice to know they have a heart. When I was writing it, I couldn't help but think if they ever get tired of pushing cars across the tracks, since there have been lines of cars waiting to test it.
