Murder Riddle

A young couple were coming home from a movie, when they walked in the door they saw a gruesome scene. Sandy was lying dead on the floor dead, with Tom standing over her. The couple got rid of the body, dried up the water that had been spilt on the floor and picked up the broken glass. They never called the police and Tom was never arrested. No crime was commited....why?

I am guessing. Tom is a cat and Sandy is a fish. The glass and water on the floor was from the fish bowl that Tom knocked over. If Tom is a cat then there would be no arres made.
