Shower vs. bath. Should children shower or bathe?

My 5 year old fell in the shower. At what age did you decide to let you child take a shower? I know children love to shower but how safe is that?

I think that kids should take baths because it is safer for them but some kids dont like it, but showers were never my thing. My kids both love the bath already so hopefuly they stay that way.

I think 5 is probably too young for a shower. I have a 5 year old but I don't think he is ready yet. I also have a 7 1/2 year old, who is probably ready, but kind of squeamish about water getting into his eyes, so the shower is a no go so far for him. I would say try again around age 7, or earlier if you want. I would suggest getting one of those no slip bath mats for the floor of the shower, so he/she can stand on that and it will bne less slick, if you don't have one already.

I'll have to search for one of the no slip bath mats

when you let your kids in the shower, you have to ensure the bottom of the tub or stall is not slippery. You can buy bath tub mats for both the tub and shower, and the kids will stop slipping.

A bath is fine, however you are soaking in your own dirt, so it's important to make sure one takes a shower when finished with bath. 5 years is ok, just keep an eye out. Buy stick grips for floor in tub:-) I hope he didn't get hurt Kynni204

The age depends on their ability to be left alone and to be as safe as possible while bathing. A five year old should be given the choice. The parents responsibility is to be sure the child can't fall, but accidents do happen. While else do we really have hospitals? Soap, bath gels, and baby oil are the worst things to use in the shower if the child does take one. A shower is safe, it's the tub surface that is not. Just be sure it isn't slippery when your daughter uses it, or use the stick on slip resistant pads on the tub surface. I have two daughters, 7 and 10, who take showers all the time.

You should probably stay in there with her to assure no injuries occur.

Let the child do what ever they want so long as they are bathing. Nothing worse than someone who has poor hygenie and doesn't bathe regularly or properly. There are several thing on the market to prevent slipping in the tub soem work better than other from bath mats to stickers that go on the bottomof the tub.
