Did you win a packet?

I don't really know a lot about golf but I have thought how great it would be to put a bet on someone and then win. For example in the x factor a few years ago when michelle mcmanus (I think thats her name) was in the final and she won and the odds had been about 30 -1 and my son said all of scotland will vote for her so she is bound to win -why didn't I think of that?? So I hadn't put a bet on but she did win and I was kicking myself for ages after. (my son should have told me sooner then I would have had time to get out and put money on her).
