I have had a buckskin gelding for over 5 years and no matter what you do when you don't have a hold of him, he lays his ears back at you. He was beat up and cut up when I got him and it has been an experience. He is the best riding horse I have ever had and on the trail he is perfect.

I've had horses for over 40 years. If you are on a horse and he's got his ears laid flat back, you are probably going to have one heck of a rodeo ride shortly. When their ears are back like that, they're usually really ticked off, or scared, about something. If you're not riding them and they're doing that and you're near to them, there's a very good chance you'll get kicked, or they will try to, so stay away from their back end. Think of their ears as a way of communicating with you. If you are around horses long enough, you can learn to guage some of what's going on with them by paying attention to what they're doing with their ears.

What do you mean?? If a horse lays his/her ears back that means that she is angry, annoyed,PMSing or more. The horse can be in pain so that If the laying the ears back gets worse, call a vet or a professional handler/trainer to get help because my horse's bad habbit is the same thing and I had to get professional help.

This horse is vet checked 2-4 times each year. He believes he has been this way so long he will never change. I am used to him and I think he is used to me so we just don't push each other. When I ride him, he takes good care of me and you would not believe he is the same horse. I don't have to cath him in the field as he comes straight to me. Whoever trained him did an excellent job. He just has, for some unknown reason, terrible pasture manners.

My horse does that when he is mad or wants his way, I usually talk to him he calms down and we are on our way. I love my horse, but he gets pissed off at me a lot LOL
