What's your worse experience with a hotel?

Have you ever had a horror story from spending time in a hotel? We were booked for a hockey tournament in a hotel in Ontario. This hotel was soooooo ghetto! I swear to you.. these are just SOME of the issues we dealt with as a group there: 1. One family's television had "human secretions" from obvoius excitement all over the screen! It was horrible! 2. A dead mouse floating in a toilet 3. Blood in a shower/tub 4. Rooms that smelled so horrible you could puke. 5. Uncleaned toilets 6. Rude staff that actually gave US the stuff to clean our own rooms when we complained!

My bad experiennce is not as bad as yours. The hotel we stayed at had no water. I had 1 bath there in 2'" of cold water. Then nothing. Fortunately we had friends close by and could go there and get washed etc. The staff just acted like there was nothing they could do. They werent interested. But back to you experience. Did you make management aware of everything that was wrong, In writing I hope. And also how badly you were treated by the staff. And if you still got no joy, write an article for the local newspaper. That might make them jump a little. Although it does sound as if no one was interested. Hope you have a better place for your next tournament.

Oh we definitely made sure they knew. When we contacted them to have the rooms cleaned better they literally gave us ONE can of lysol and said we could spray ourselves. LOL Evidently they feel that lysol spray is also a cleaning agent? We ended up going out, getting buckets and stuff to clean because we KNEW we had no choice but to clean it if we were going to stay. Some of us even bought sheets to use instead of what they had on the bed because we could pretty much figure it wasn't clean! Then we called the 800 number for the motel and they were very nonchalant about it and said that there wasn't much they could do. We've stayed many other times in the same area and have had great places. This past one we had a Hilton and it was amazingly awesome and the staff was GREAT!

Hmm, I haven't had as bad a stay as you thats for sure. However, 2 years ago, myself and my partner moved out from Ontario to BC. We packed what we could in the car and drove it. The trip took 5 days and we stayed in a different hotel each night. Our second night was spent in Winnipeg in Manitoba. It took us some time to find a place that had rooms available. We finally landed at a motel that had a vacancy sign lit, and so we went in. The guy behind the desk said he had one room left available and so we signed in and took it. When we went inside, it was a smoking room. Even as a smoker, I did NOT like the smell of the smoke. It smelled terribly stale. I even went to smoke outdoors just to get some air. There was an Air conditioning unit in the room that rattled so bad. It sounded like it was going to break down and stop working at any moment. There was barely enough space round the bed to get in and out of it. We took to climbing on from the bottom up. The towels in the bathroom were tiny, and there was no soap. Good job we had our own is all I can say. We didn't pay a whole lot for the room but heck, we at least expected basic comforts That was the single most uncomfortable stay I've ever had. My partner incredibly managed to sleep, and it's probably just as well. 5 days of 12 hours nonstop driving takes it's toll for sure!

Doesn't it kill you when you lie awake all night and everyone else somehow manages to sleep? LOL I'm always the one that has issues with sleeping too. If we're only there for a night I may as well forget it. If we're there 2-3 then I finally just collapse from exhaustion and finally sleep!

My husband and I stayed one night at an adult motel. The good thing the room was clean. Now comes the bad stuff, we had a waterbed-the bed was so cold, you couldn't lay down. The toilet overflowed, someone tried to get in our room. Then to top it all off, I wanted some hanky panky and all my husband wanted to do was sleep. I was not a happy camper, LOL. It was funny later, but not at the time. Another time we stayed in a motel, the room was overpriced, but it was late so we took the room. The air conditioner didn't work. They changed our room, this is after unpacking and getting around for bed. We had to repack, get dressed, change rooms. By this time it was in the middle of the night before we finally got into bed. Then after about 3 hours of sleep, the next room over, we were rudely awoken by a jack hammer, they were renovating the room next door. The hotel wasn't supposed to put anyone in those rooms. We complained they gave us $10 back, they should have refunded all our money. I have other not so good experiences in hotels but those were the worst.

We went to one, because there were no other with openings. After getting to the room, it was horrible. We would turn out the lights and the bugs would come out. The office would not give our money back, and I slept in the car. It was awful. They did give us an offer for a free stay, HELLO!! There is no way!!!

Although we did not have such an experience as yours (thankfully), we did encounter some nasty rooms when we went to Niagara Falls last year. Our friends are from Holland and they were amazed at the way the room was. The carpet was stained by the sliding glass door that led to the balcony. The rooms weren't very neat. He videotaped it to show his friends in Holland.

Oh geez! How sad that he thought that was a "typical" experience! There are some very varied versions of hotels in that area. I've had everything from something a roach wouldn't even stay in to something that made you feel like a Queen! Too bad your experience wasn't better!

We also had one very bad experience when we went to the hill station to spend our vacations. The things which made that hotel worst one are as follows: 1) There was no water in the taps for that they gave us just two buckets full of water. 2) None of the tube lights were working, there was only on small bulb. 3)And we cannot go to the restaurant as there was some exhibition in the restaurant.

Wow, I have never had any thing like that! The worst that I have had is hair that was obviously not from a head is the bed, shower, etc.and i was aways promptly taken care of. One time when my husband and I went to Biloxi, Mi. we were given a dirty room and wen we called management about it we were upgraded to a awesome suite.

Oh my gosh...my worst experience is no where near as horrible as yours. I am so sorry you had to deal with such please. *shivers* Our worst experience was in the Baton Rouge area (a city off of that actually, but can't remember the name). It was a Best Western, which are usually really nice, so we were shocked by how yucky this one was. Our Tv was horrible...half of the channels didn't show up and if they did it would stay steady for a second and then start moving and jittery. I found so much gross stuff on the floor, the bed gave the creeps, the only gave us one set of towels for a person and when we went down to get another set they weren't going to give us one...but they finally did. The staff was just rude and lazy. I still have nightmares from that place.

LOL... I can tell you.. if we had the option of finding another place to stay we would have. I seriously considered staying in the car but Ontario in March is like sub zero weather quite often and this was not any different. EVERY hotel within a 2 hour drive was booked because of hockey tournaments so we had no choice and they knew it. AND when I called headquarters to complain, they blew me off.

OH yes we were in Baltimore and wanted to be close to the Union hall for signing up the next morning . We got a room before looking at it. There was cig butts all over underbed under tables and then we were walking out side and there were hypo needles every where we wnt back in and found one stuck in the mattress. Well I came unclued and went to manager and got our money back and found a different motel. Its ashame that the maids cant clean any better than that even a grounds keeper should have been picking this stuff up some how they just didnt seem to care that it was running their motel down. From now on I ask to see the room before renting it for the night!

nothing so bad as that, but.... we booked a double room in one London Hotel, that was near Hyde Park, walking distance, as we were seeing a band there. when we got there and went to sign in, they had as wait for about half an hour. when they finally let us go to sign in, it turned out they had overbooked the hotel, as this was their policy, so we wouldn't be staying there but at a sister hotel, some distance away. when we got there we didn't have much time left to get all the way back to hyde park, so we dumped our stuff off in the room and left. on getting back, first we found out that the lights in the room didn't work, so we had to rely on light from the TV. then we realised it had a single bed. and a small single at that, so it was quite a squeeze, and we nearly considered one of us sleeping on the floor. when we went to complain about this in the morning, they INSISTED it was a double room, and simply wouldn't have it that it was a single, even though the bed had one pillow and there was one hand towel and one bath towel. they refused to even refund us the difference between a single and a double room, which we had payed for, as it was "like a double room" although I can't imagine in what way. I was very angry and upset, and they made me feel stupid by making out I was a liar that it was a single room.

What happened to you and your group is inexcusable. As an Ontarian, from Toronto, I feel that the hotel should've at least offered the group a free dinners along with the discount or better yet if it is part of a chain, some free time at one of its other better managed hotels. By the way you should contact the Ontario Tourist Office and launch a complaint. Paying guests deserve a lot better.

Thanks. The sad part was the 800 number that takes the calls for the hotel chain was less then caring. The good part is, this was only one of many times we've stayed someplace in the area and we've always had nothing but wonderful experiences until this one!!! We just know to NEVER stay there again! I had experienced some that you had before but the worst was when i my room was knocked in the wee hours of the morning by a raiding vice squad. Nothing happened to me though as i was 'unaccompanied' (lucky me!) but the whole operation caused so much commotion i barely had rest the day after. I swore not to sleep in 'super-budget' hotels ever again.

LOL... thank GOD you didn't have a "friend" you met at the bar or something with you! The sad part was, this was NOT a cheap hotel! We paid a premium price considering what it offered!

That is pretty horrible! I think the worst that we had to deal with was paying $250 (only hotel available) for a room that had cockroaches! I was so mad! I complained but they didn't do anything about it.

Hmmm.. when we went to Singapore last year.. the hotel we stayed at was not a 5 star-hotel, it was just a mini-hotel in Chinatown, just so we have a place to stay at for one night. We had an online reservation and we thought it was nice and clean even if it's just a mini-hotel, but then I guess we expected too much! The room was sooo small, and the sheets were not clean at all, the toilet was atleast clean and they provided a roll of bathroom tissue.. the aircon was not that cold. I mean, what the heck!?! We definitely will not go back there anymore!! The landlord was even worse.. he was so rude and inconsiderate.

oh man, me and my boyfriend went out on a date on valentines day and we wanted to be a little risky,....so the first hotel we saw we grabbed a room. It was at the comfort inn and it was no comfort in there...they even had lip prints of a chicks lips on the wall. Never again...if it's not a three star don't sleep there.

Mine is minor compaired to yours. I stayed in San Franciso at a hotel by the airport. I checked in a few hours early to rest before picking up a friend at the airport. Well I was undressed and was running a bath. I flushed the toilet and it overflowed. I did not know what to do. I stepted into the tub, then back into the floor/water because I had to turn the water off to the toiled and then get dresses by walking in the water and wet carpet. I got dressed called the desk and 3 hours later I had to call them again. I then got accused of flushing something down the toilet. I just peed. They did not even clean the carpet or the floor. I made them bring in more towles because I had put all them on the floor. There was not more rooms so we got the stay in the room for 1/2 off.

I had one horrible experience at a hotel. We were trying to sleep but it was hard to. I have a good idea what this noise was but i'm not 100% sure. I'll explain now, When we were trying to sleep there was a continuous moan coming from a woman across the hall me having a good idea what that was was grossed out. That is my bad time at a hotel.
