i am getting a comfort pet for myself, what kind???

i am moving back into my home in mississippi after being out since hurricane katrina flooded my home, i was sick with cancer then and am now. i will be alone in the house, and people say i should get a animal for company, i am not sure what to get. i love all animals and would not get one if i knew it would not have a home after i die. not sure what to get a small dog, maybe a cat. i am not sure which would be best for me. i am leaning toward a small dog. any suggestions from animal lovers out there????

My prayers are with you during your illness. A small dog would be a wonderful companion for you! Dogs are so loving and attentive and know when we are feeling down, ready to comfort us. Pets also have therapeutic effects; it has been proven that ill people with pets have less pain and depression! If you are concerned about what may happen to your pet, ask a friend, church member or neighbor if they would be willing to care for your pet when you are no longer able to.
