My granddaughter has a mild form of Autism called ASberber's Syndrome. What is the cause of this? Is it Genetic or something else? Is the home environment to blame? Too much time in front of the TV? They do not have to interract while watching so much. So they just go into their own world? Is it Genetic? A Gene that runs in the family. We so not have this on my side of the family. Her side, her sister had an auditory perception problem. So their might be the link!

Nobody knows exactly what causes autism, including Asberger's Syndrome. Some speculate it is genetic, but a specific gene has not been found. People used to fault the family, but some families have several children without autism and one with autism. Some speculate that autism stems from something going wrong in the womb during fetal development. There are many resources for children and families. Best wishes to you.

Thanks for the response. She has 2 other children and they are fine. They watched alot of TV at first, now I think that is curtailed a little. I want to be informed, but I would rather put my trust in the Lord that He will heal her. Prayer can bring amazing changes to any situation!

Knowone knows what exactly causes autism, there are several differant oppions some people think that is genetic, some enviroment they are in the begining phases of studying causes. The important thing to do now is teaching these kids how to cope with autism. As a parent of an autistic boy I can't begin to stress the importance of early intervention. Our world is not going to change to adapt to these children so we need to give them the tools that they will need to survive in our world. By all means pray but also take an active role in there lives giving them the skills that they need. There are a lot of good websites with information on autism read learn all that you can. Please remember that these are special children that god has sent us to take care of and just because they are differant doesn't mean that they can't teach us a thing or two.

Since there are many opinions on the origins of autism and some are more reliable than others maybe it's better to focus on the treatment. Watching tv is not one of the causes since it can already be detected at an age that children do not watch tv. About the genetic. It is possible that something is not inherited. Your granddaughter may be the first one who has Asperger's syndrome. http://www.aspergerssyndrome.org/
