Do you think a person's music preference tells what kind of person you are?

Hi, I ask this because i am just curious. My husband is always asking me what is going on with me, and is something bothering me. When I ask "why", he says well, something must be bothering you or you are upset because you are always listening to that rock music. So what just because i listen to Korn and Nickelback or Staind I must have something negative going on. I listen to it because i like it and I can relate to the lyrics. Has someone ever judged you for what you listen to? Do you listen to certain music depending on what state of mind you are in? Just curious.

I think some music can help when feeling a certain way but I do not make judgments about people based on their taste in music. I have a very eclectic collection of music and listen to a lot of different styles, genres, and artists. In an hour I will listen to everything from rock to rap to country to classical. I tend to gravitate toward rock, alternative, and rap but would never limit what I listen to. I think people listen to what they like and what catches their attention which can change very quickly. Now constantly playing "Here comes the Bride" around your boyfriend may send a message just like if I constantly played "Don't Go Away Mad, Just Go Away" whenever my wife was around. :-) (which I would never do)

I love that song "Don't go away mad, just go away", it's terrible to say but at one point in time I actually did put that song on repeat for my significant other. (LOL)

I don't think I've ever been judged (to my knowledge, anyway) based on the music I listen to. I, too, enjoy bands like Korn, Disturbed, etc. (rock/metal), though there's nothing really negative going on in my life. I just happen to prefer that type of music over the typical 'pop' songs out there. I do listen to certain music depending on my state of mind at the time. Such as Rage Against the Machine is my 'I'm mad at the world' music. That's just one example of many. Great topic, dedicated_28. Perhaps your husband is merely concerned about you and your happiness when he asks you that. But as long as you keep reassuring him nothing is wrong, hopefully he'll decide everything is fine!

no,i dont think so.. you know, i also love rock andalternative music and my friends are little shock at my preference in music. they told me that they cannot imagine me listening to that genre since they said was really modest, gentle, and angelic and conservative. they teased me that my sweet image was instantly crushed as soon as they heard my preference. i just shrugged at that. anyway, your kind of music would just give them glimpse of what you like but it wont tell them the kind or person you are. well, this is what i think anyway.
