Vitex and PCOS

I have been reading a lot about how Vitex has been helping many women with PCOS or other menstrual problems. Vitex, also called Chaste berry, is supposed to be great to regulate periods and it also is supposed to help women get pregnant. Supposedly because it regulates their cycle. Has anyone tried it? I just ordered some and am going to see how it goes. I have heard mixed results about how long it takes. Some say within a couple days and some say 4-6 weeks to see results. I would appreciate it if you would let me know if you have tried it and what your experiences are.

I have heard many great things about Vitex. I am considering using it as well. Herbs should be taken with precaution and if you start usuing it, be sure to discuss it with your OBGYN or PCP first. Somtimes Chaste Berry can have bad reacations with other medicines herbs. Good luck and please let us know if it works for you!

I haven't had the patience to use vitex, but we studied it in an herbal medicine class (grad school) that was taught by someone who actually uses it in clinical practice. It can be used for pretty much everything you said--I won't bore you with the details, but basically it normalizes the cycle of hormone release that causes the fertility/menstrual cycle. Vitex was presented mainly as a menstrual cycle normalizer and possibly a fertility aid. I'm not sure what effect it would have on other PCOS issues (obesity, hair growth, insulin problems, etc.) However, from what I learned, I would NOT expect to see results in a few days or weeks. Depending on the individual's condition and the dosage and form of the herb taken, it's more like 2-6 months of daily use to really normalize things. If you're the type of person that can do daily meds for an extended period, I hear it's very effective. Mind if I ask what form (pill, tea, tincture) and dose you ordered?

I got the pill form. The person who told me about it has tried all three and stated that she did not notice any differences.

Hi, I have never heard of it before. I have also been diagnosed to have PCOS. I was prescribed Metformin.
