I thought we lost our dog today!

I had a perfect day out with my wonderful husband and teenagers today. However, it was almost a disaster. We were walking in the woods and our cocker spaniel got thirsty so wanted to go to the stream for a drink. Unfortunately, the bank on our side was 3/4 feet high mostly where we were. He decided to slide down the bank to get his drink but how were we going to get him back up again? Imagine the scene: high bank, trees, brambles, mud, fence with stile, family sitting having a rest on stile! dog running up and down on far bank not being able to see way back. No end in sight in either direction! So, I had to save the day. Over the stile, to edge of bank by tree almost in stream with exposed roots that had gathered debris. Luckily there was also a bit of a dam there with stones and there has not been much rain lately or I think it would have been too deep for him. So I had to call Merlin to come back to our side across the quite fast flowing stream to a part of the bank that he could not actually climb up and trust me to help him (via his collar - whilst clinging to a tree!) back up the steep bank. Whew, it could have been a long annoying day if he had not been brave and trusted me. Or just decided to run off. Alls well that ends well. I thought you would prefer to know at the start that this had a happy ending.

Glad you got your dog out of that stream safe and sound! Could have been a desaster there! Glad you didnt fall in either. Spaniels are usually very trusting dogs to have too, though they can be extra playful at times too.

I think that was what I was mostly thinking about, as it was over quite quickly, that I did not want to have to get wet.

Your dog looks so cute with his toy. I am glad you managed to save him. I remember when one of mine was a puppy, about 6 months old and my husband and myself where taking him a walk near the canal and he fell in. I've never seen my husband move so fast to get down on the ground to reach over and get him out. I panicked like mad but luckily he was fine so I know how awful you must have felt.

That reminds me of when we discovered he could swim as he walked out too far off a shelf in a stream and out of his depth. That was quite funny.
