The Halloween Remake

As a devoted fan of John Carpenters original Halloween movie, I have to say I'm a little nervous about the upcoming Rob Zombie remake. While I find Rob Zombie to be a very creative and talented film maker, I just can't see anyone surpassing John Carpenters version of the film. How does everyone else see this movie turning out? Do you think Rob Zombie has what it takes to remake a classic into a bigger and better version of its original?

NO! Rob Zombie does NOT have what it takes to make Halloween better. I have not seen the remake and frankly, I don't need to. Why mess up a good thing? "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I just recently saw the remake and it definitely confirmed what I was expecting: it does not even come close to Carpenters version. That's not to say that it was overly bad. The first half of the movie was pretty good, but he killed it in the second half. Overall, I think you were smart to save yourself the time and money.

I'm glad you posted a response. Although I don't want to see the remake, I was hoping someone would see the remake and give some feedback on it. I can tell from your post that initial instincts were correct, It ain't worth watching.

Yeah, I would have to recommend saving your nine or ten dollars on seeing this in the theatre. However, it was good enough to definitely rent when it comes out on video.

I'm not sure but I would love to see it when it comes out. I liked his movie Land of 1000 corpses. Out doing John Carpenter will take a lot of work though.

I also liked his movie house of a 1000 corpses. It was different, and kind of a mix of all horror movies.

He is a very good film maeker, but like you said, it's gonna be a challenge to beat John Carpenter. We'll see though.

I saw this movie and it rocks. It has good soundtrack as you would expect from a rob zombie film. The effects were alright. It tells more in depth story about michael being institionalized since he was convicted of murder at the age of 10 years old, which was interesting to me. Not bad acting eitherr. Sheri moon zombie stars in this movie, she did an alright job acting. I downloaded the halloween dvdscr from a forum site. If anyone would like that link, send me a a mylot messege and i will send ya the link.

I have to agree with you about Sheri Moon Zombie. She did a great job in this role, as did the kid playing 10 year old Michael. The first half of the movie was very original and good, but the second half killed the movie for me. The acting was horrible and Zombie didn't seem to make this half of the film his own like he did with the first half. If he had come up with a fresher and more original script he would have been right up there with Carpenter.

I think Zombie can def. make it good and scary/entertaining. But I too am a big fan of Halloween (in fact, michael myers is my favorite killer) and I don't expect to like it more than the original. It is hard to make a remakes as enjoyable as an original. I've only liked remakes more a few times, including When A Stranger Calls.

I completely agree with you. Its very rare to see a remake that surpasses the original. But I guess if anyone can make it happen, Rob Zombie can.

I have a feeling I'll enjoy the remake. I love the Halloween series, but I'm not an overcritical movie nerd so I'm going into it ready to be entertained.

I agree. I was a little iffy at first about the remake, but after watching the latest trailers, my interests are definitely peaked. I think I'll like the new one. It may not be the same as the original but I think it will do just as well.

I saw that movie once it came out. I actually really liked it. It had alot of good scenes in it and some crazy stuff. I think he does pretty good horror movies. maybe it's cause im just already a big fan of his. This movie is coming out soon, I'm hoping to buy it.

I'll watch it because I like Rob Zombie, but I'm so tired of all the remakes! It seems like every other month a remake is released. What happened to creativity? Are all the ideas taken? I'm so sick of it!

I agree with you. I like Rob Zombie too, but if any other recent remakes are any indication, this movie will probably not be worth the money. But, I have hopes that it does well so we'll see.

I have a hard time getting into remakes. Typically they aren't near as good as the original. In the case that I haven't seen the original .. "The Manchurian Candidate" I will watch (and occasionally enjoy) those movies, but not once I've seen the original. I usually just end up disappointed. P.S. I hope you're enjoying your stay over here. Once you get to 100 posts and get your rating it is much easier to accumulate more cents during the day. I can spend 15-20 mins each day and make close to a dollar. Best of luck to you!

I'm not a fan of remakes either. Not because I'm biased toward them, just because like you said, they never measure up. This movie will be the one time that I'd be happy to be wrong. I am doing really well so far. It's been easy to just jump in and talk, which is really cool for me. I've earned a little bit (less the $1) but I'm enjoying myself, which is what really matters. Thanks for the comment.

I'm actually really looking forward to it. There are a number of movie stills and such over at bloody-disgusting.com which is only adding to the excitement for me. Just waiting for the first trailer to come out so we can get an idea of the look.

I think I'll check out that website. I definitely want to see the movie, not just because it looks good, but because Iwant to see how it measures up to the original. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised :)

well you know what - I am kinda mad since I wish it were a part nine film instead of just a remake you know what I mean - They really could have brought back the terror still of Michael Myers being scary to all people - just stick with the series as it is and explain everything up to the current point - it is all jaded and screwed up now with the new version - a new jamie lee laurie strode is here now - i mean come on - last we saw in part 8 she was killedoff so we think? I mean why not play off of that and where is her son? also part 4 and 5 were great well 4 was great - they really need to get the family tree down more specific - i mean come on. explain the family tree or something - I wish it were more a sequel part 9 and explaination of things more with a newer version of michael being scary that would have been much better I think

I think that the original did just fine with the 5 minutes of little Michael in the beginning and the rest of the movie being adult Michael. I'm not sure how I feel about this who childhood story line that is being thrown into the remake. His childhood was something that wasn't really addressed in the original, and I don't think that it was necessary to have it addressed. I guess we'll just have to wait for the remake to see how well this added storyline does.

Bigger & Better? I'm not so sure. The classic will always be... well.. Classic. I grew up with the classic movie and will always love it and how petrified it made me. The remake trailer looked to be very good - but how can you fit a whole movie into about 2.5 minutes. It's difficult to tell just from a trailer but it does look cool. I honestly can not wait to see this!

Previews can be deceiving. I just recently went to see Vacancy, and was very disappointed with the way the actual movie was compared to what the previews made it look like. I'm hoping that the Halloween remake proves to be as good as the preview.
