Allergy season has begun! Mine are giving me fits this year. We haven't had a lot of rain and pollen is everywhere! It doesn't take much in the medicine department to make me sleepy, so if I take a benadryl it will knock me out. I have tried Allegra but sometimes it is not enough. I was wondering what other mylotters take for their allergies.

I have scripts for Clariten , Singulair and Albuteral inhaler. I try to avoid taking anything though and generally suffer through it - unless I need that inhaler.
Sudafed gives me heart palpatations and Benedryl makes me an irritable cuss.

benadryl usually works for me.
i had allegra for awhile, but it seemed like it sucked all the water out of me-cotton mouth from hell.
i'll take chlortrimeton if there's nothing else, but i have to take a lot to make it do anything.

if the allergies are too much, i take antihistamines; otherwise, a good rest and avoidance of allergens are enough to make me feel better.

I usually take Benadryl also. If i take one im fine, but if i take 2 it knocks me out also. I also take claridin for my allergies and i have also tryied Allegra. I think Claridin doesnt make me sleepy and probably works the best.

Hi Apples,I take loratadine which is the genaric for claratin.I have taken zertec but think that claratin works better for me..I take the 24 hour kind.I take it before bed so if I'm at all sleepy it would wear off by the next day.Just be sure to get the once a day ones..Hope it helps

I know how you feel. My allergies make me miserable especially in the spring. I had tried Allegra, Claritin and a few others to no avail. The only thing that worked for me was benadryl for the longest time. That is until recently. The doctor put me on a new nasal spray called Astelin. It's wonderful. I use it twice a day and I wouldn't know I had allergies. No congestion, no sinus pressure, no post nasal drip, I'm symptom free. I love the stuff. I've been on it now for 3 weeks and it's really made a differnce in my sleeping and how I feel during the day. If you have problems with indoor or outdoor allergies, let alone both like me, I'd recommend checking it out.

In my family we all have allergies. I once had the preventative injections, & that worked quite well. I take a 10mg phenergan tablet now.
My daughter uses a nose spray, both a preventative & a temporary relief one.
My husband takes lots of medication. He does use a nose spray occassionally. At one stage his allergies were so severe, that he had to use steroids (prescription based oif course). But they have significant side effects.

I used to have terrible allergies in the spring (and some of the rest of the year) when I lived down in Texas. When I moved to the northwest, you could say that I "took control" of my allergies, because the area I chose to move to very specifically has low allergen counts (for one, it's surrounded by water on three sides), and I have to say that I have maybe sneezed once or twice in the six months I have lived here.
I never found anything particularly effective for allergies. Most allergy meds made me feel dopey and sleepy, and in the end the most effective treatment seemed to be to take a couple of Advil to knock back the sinus headache, and otherwise just "live with it."

i used to have real bad oen where eyes would eb red adn sinuses would be running for days used to take over the counter and off the shelf medications for them but liek others have said they were drowsy all day or in my case felt liek the mind was all foggy when i took them My doctor explained it was becasue they wer all antihistamines and that i might wanna try a histamine which i have for the last few years adn it has worked great 2-3 times a day when they are bad other tiem s nothing for months.the one i take requires a perscription form Doctor and is Patanol 0.1%, Olopatadine Hydro. It is quite pricey but i find it works great.

I used to take meds for it and they made me dizzy and sleepy. So, right now, I am taking nothing. However, I have noticed the need to sleep more and feeling more drained. It just snowed here the other day so I did not even think about the pollen.

I have tried some herbal hayfever tablets from tescos. The are quite small and you take 3 three times a day. They just dissolve on your tongue.
They do not make you drowsy at all and worked very well for me last year.
Even if you leave it late and take them when you start getting itchy eyes etc, they reduce the symptoms almost immediately.

My daughter seems to be allergic to pollen, something we didn't realize until this year (apparently the pollen's the worst it's been around her in 12 years - she's 10). We started her on the over-the-counter version of Claritin, and it's been working wonders without making her sleepy. I was concerned about that since she has school and all, but so far, so good!
