There are many local festivals in every geographical region. Coming 15th is such day for Kerala people. Kerala is southern part of India. I belong to Kerala. We celebrate VISHU on 1st day of MEDAM.Medam is a month of KOLLAM ERA.KOLLAM Era is local era of Kerala. Vishu is a festival of harvest. It is the end of harvest season. Vishu kanji is the special food for Vishu. It is prepared of rice.Itis one type of rice cake with taste of salt or without salt. Vishu kani is the main programm. We set a kani in a brass vessel with valued materials such as gold, rice, vegetables and fruites. It is arranged in the early morning. Kani is sign of prosperity and peace. Fireworks, temple programmes are part of Vishu. Could I know something about your lacal festivals?

A similar Harvest festival is celebrated in Tamil Nadu during the month of January. It is called as PONGAL. The Mahara Shankaranthi day which is celebrated almost all parts of India also coincides with this festival. It is a thanks giving festival to the harvest season. Rice prepared from the newly harvested pady is cooke in each house-hold and offered to the godess. Also we celebratea separate festival as a continuation of this festival to thanks the cattle that helped the farmer in achieving a good harvest. It is known as Mattu Pongal.

Wow, I wish we had a festival like that. This weekend, I went to a blueberry festival in Pune exterior region. It's a little local thing, just to celebrate the fresh blueberries being in season in woods. A local church held it as a fundraiser. They sold fresh blueberries and also blueberry pie. A variety of craft booths kept people occupied and a bag piper walked around playing music. It was a nice day.
