I saw the film before I read the book....I was fairly young and am ashamed to say I didn't realise there was a book out for QotD, even though I'd already read Interview with a Vampire! I like the bits added in the film, like the whole rock band thing. The book WAS a little slow, as someone said.

Heh, I've read the book now...I just meant that at the time of seeing the film, I didn't realise that there was a book predecessing it. It was only by chance that I noticed it in a bookstore, that I managed to buy it and read it =)

I loved this movie, and the soundtrack is pretty awesome too. I wasn't so keen on the book however, I felt it was a little too slow for my likeing

I thought they made a complete bodge job, especially in the way they jammed a bit of the vampire lestat in there, but completely wrong (marious/magnus - and hang on, how can that be marius?!, the violinist being some random lady, rather than lestats not so lady lover, etc) and then the complete and utter bodge up of the QOTD plot. having said that, if I pretend the film isn't anything to do with the book, I do really enjoy it. it's very sexy. and I do think Stuart Townshend is a pretty decent Lestat. he gets his more impulsive and playful side across really well.

I dare say, The Queen of the Damned was the finest of the Vampire Chronicles and one that I would most definitely read a second time. The Vampire Lestat runs a close second.

I read the book long before the movie came out. In a lot of ways, they combined the plots from "The Vampire Lestat" and "Queen of the Damned" into one movies, taking out a lot of stuff on the way. That being said, though, I haven't re-read those books in a long time, and I really enjoy watching the movie. Stuart Townsend is great as Lestat, even better than Tom Cruise was in "Interview with a Vampire."
