young kids playing runescape...

do you think that kids younger than jagexs' stated 13 should get to play runescape? my son is 8 (will be 9 this year) he has an account that he plays on every now and then, i am always in the room and i help him with things like deciding which skills to lvl up, if people chat to him, i generally do the typing so that he can't get offensive with them. i have seen a few rs players and i am sure they are under 13 (like my son) only they don't seem to have anyone bothering to watch over them! do you think that they should? i know that jagex can't enforce the rule of age, but perhaps they could try a bit more?

i am 26, and i have played it for about 2 and a half years, my son has watched me play, and recently asked if he could play. after playing it for so long, i deem him old enought to play it. not there isn't any blood, but, it is classed as violent if you are a fighter rather than a skiller.

I think they should have seperate servers for people of different ages.

thats not a bad idea, or if parents are so scared, just turn public chat off.

I don't have a problem with the supposed violence ( see mu pic ). My daughter even has her own set of armor. I let her play occasionally when I'm watching, she has her own character but I have all the chats turned off. She's 9 and dosen't need a bunch of addolescents hitting on her. She mostly just goes abound chicken kicking. She finds that amusing.

I really believe that runescape is a game that you should be able to play not matter how old you are. Sure there are some bad people saying bad things, but the good people outweigh the bad. It's a learning experience that can really help the child to learn to communticate and makes some good decisions in their life.

Well, presuming every little boy has video games)xbox, ps2, etc), video games are loaded with violence. Compared to RS, rs is a saint. There is no profanity, no bloodshed, and it's quite educational as well. I learned the 4 elements playing rs, lots of mid evil things, armor types, weapons, how to make certain foods, how leather is made from cowhide. It's interesting :)

yea, rs compared to other games out on the market is totally clean. i actually learned tons from rs. it helped out in my math skills and multiplication. It even helped in my finger reflexes.

I think that its good to let them start at an early age, because it can help the person improve in language skills since there is alot of communication within the game, also in mathematical skills too since alot of calculations have to be made with the experience of the character. But children might feel that they can get away with anything, since it is the internet and the person who the child is being abusive to feels that he/she will definatly get away with it, of which is in most cases but this doesn't build social skills.

first of all, you are freaking cool to be a mother who plays runescape and also lets son play it, my mother on the other hand always eggs on me when she sees me on. Well about kids playing runescape.....long story short i really absolutely would not recommend it to kids under 14. One, some stuff is a lot too complex for kids to understand, and also a lot of players in the game are rude, vulgar, profane, and perverted. So keep the kiddies away from the game until they reach the age in which they are able to hunt with the village elders ;)
