Until a couple years ago I tended to change my bedroom decor a lot and with that my bedding also changed. Then I was taking a college speech class and one of the groups did a speech on colors and how they affect you. At the time my bedroom was a sort of Hawaiian tropic theme and my bed comforter was big bright flowers in pinks, yellows, and blues with green leaves and bright blue back ground. I was also suffering from some horrid migraine headaches. Well, part of this speech said that purples were not only calming but could also help alleviate migraines. I went right out and purchased lilac yarn and made an afghan for myself. Needless to say it didn’t match my room décor at all so I pulled out an old comforter I hadn’t used in years but is a soft country patchwork with blues, greens, pinks, and purples. In the 2 years since changing my bedroom colors I have had 1 migraine opposed to the 1 or 2 a week before. I keep the same décor all year and only remove extra blankets in the summer – I also have flannel sheets for winter and cotton for summer. So, my questions to you are do you have a particular color or bedding you prefer? What are they? Do you notice a difference in your life such as how well you sleep or like me headaches when you change your bedding? Do you change your bedding with the seasons or stay the same all year? If you were going to change what might that change be?

I had a moment of rebellion against how masculine looking everything had gotten and I went out and bought bright pink stuff. I kept the black comforter and pillow cases but added a pink body pillow and two throws and hung pink curtains. I also added little touches of the pink/black theme around the room. Before this it was navy blue and brown and I was in the process of changing to black, gray, and red (to make s/o happy) when I got hit with the pink inspiration. I wouldn't say it's very calming but a bright, cheery room is better for me. It's especially nice in the evening because the biggest window faces west so the evening sun comes through the pink and gives everything this soft glow. There's a good chance I'll be redoing another place soon. It's really small but only going to be temporary hopefully. Since everything sort of runs together the main rooms will be white and lavender, the front bedroom I haven't decided on and the back bedroom id going to be dark purple with white and lavender accents. My s/o works nights half the time so a dark room is better for him when he has to sleep during the day.

I love the thought of the evening sun coming through the pink curtains. I've known a couple of people who have gone to black and pink in their bedrooms, I never would have thought of it myself but the one I saw was really neat.

I have only two different colours of bedding in my room, black or purple. My room is purple, lilac and lavender and the bedhead and furniture is black wrought iron, a true gothic bedroom. I generally use the lavender purple sheets on the bed but I have a black furry throw as well. I find shades of purple very restful and tranquil, I couldn't imagine myself ever using a pink floral pattern or orange and green.

Oh my furniture is such a hodpodge it's crazy, nothing matches. I keep saying someday I'm going to get matching bedroom furniture but there always seems to be something else more important.

You've inspired me. Whenever I look at comforters and sheets, I'm always drawn to reds, greens. golds and whites in plaid. I love Christmas and I think part of it is because of the colors. I'm not sure what they do to me, but I just feel better when I'm surrounded by them. It's time for a bedroom makeover, but I probably won't find those colors this time of year.

Usually when I buy a new set of bed sheets, I tend to match it in my mind. I want it to go with the decors of my room. My bed sheets are usually of of a "calming" color - nothing to messy. :P Some of them would be in my lucky color according to my horoscope or fengshui too. I change my bed sheets once every week anyway so every set gets a turn in the queue. ^^

I have to have solid colored sheets, no pattern, for some reason I've never slept well on prints - too busy I'm guessing. Several years back I did some study of feng shui - it's fasinating and as a result I ended up with a waterfall painted on the north wall of my bedroom. Everyone thought I was crazy but I loved it and miss it now - it covered the entire wall. I can't remember now why but it had something to do with fung shui.

I don't have any special bedding really...but I also went by the feng shui thing and painted my bedroom a light blue and the bedding is light blue and white. I don't like flowers, so none of that for me, but my comforter is like a blue and white check...I think it's Martha Stewart actually. I'm big on matching though. I'm weird about stuff like sheets and towels all matching. I think I read somewhere that blue is a calming color, but it's been the same for a while and I don't change very often.

Your room sounds pretty, I love blues although for Christmas this past year I crocheted an afghan for one of my sisters (did for 4 sisters in all) and it was called 'berry blue' and white - that is the brightest blue I've ever seen, almost metalic and she loves it. Too bright for me, my Mom had a fit when she said she was going to keep it in her car, Mom was afraid someone would steel it.

The comforter that I have on my bed is what me and my Fiance picked out togather! IT has not other special reason except it was the first comforter that we picked out after moving in togather!

Sentimental reasons are good. For years I always had a particular afhgan folded at the foot of my bed. It was 2 shades of pink and white, the second afghan I ever made. I still have it and it's what my kids refer to as "Mom's sick blanket" when I don't feel good I still pull that out of the closet or one of the kids will fetch it for me. That afghan is 36 years old now.

What made us feel more comfortable is when we started using flannel sheets. We use flannel sheets all year round, even in the summer. I know it sounds like they would be too hot but they are not and they are so soft!

I do love my flannel sheets but have never tried them in the summer, may have to do that or at least try it. I do enjoy the coolness of the cotton in the summer but flannel as you said is so soft.

Although I have never suffered from headaches from certain colours I do believe certain colours have different effects on our moods. My bedroom at the moment is beige, cream and a very soft maroon. I don't think I am ready for any change just yet, but I might change the beige and cream to a soft grey. I am glad you migraines are much less frequent now.

That's funny, my living room is beige, cream, and maroon but my maroon is on the dark side - did that because of teenagers plopping on the sofa which is cream with a pale flower print in green and maroon but I've covered it with sofa covers (sofa and loveseat) in the dark maroon at least for the winter.

Oh wow that is lovely as I love the colour purple, and maybe this is why I do not get migraines any more as I used to have them for many years. No I do not have a particular colour I use but I do like bright colours in the summer and darker colours in the winter season.

I too love bright colors but since I've gotten rid of the migraines there is no way I will ever go back to having them in my bedroom. I love my purple and if I do decide to change I'm sure it will just be a different purple - maybe a little darker or some pattern with a lot of purple in it.

This is Lucy hogging my bed. - Here is my room, purple walls, burgundy stonewash curtains and i have a doonah cover with soft pinks, sage and lilac.
I've always wanted a proper bedroom in colours I chose. When I moved into this house I painted my room in a royal purple colour and put in burgundy stonewash curtains. I bought a set of purple sheets and a set of maroon sheets. I also bought a gorgeous doonah cover in purple shades . I have a white mosquito net scoped up and tied back, off white headboard and offwhite lamps. Uner the maroon curtains are lacy white ones. The floor is polished wood. Oh, and I have a water bed. I generally sleep very well.

I don't change the whole decor that often..but have a comforter and pillows for the winter and another set for summer in lighter colors, fabrics and weights...I change the look by adding new pillows ( decorator) in new shapes, trims and colors...I change the throw that I keep on my bed when I change the pillows...Right now I have a sort of cafe' au lait colored comforter with a braided trim and 6 shapes and textures of pillows for decoration..with a throw to compliment them..I changed to this one last fall and actually think I sleep better...my old one was floral and darker...different fabric and seemed "heavy" not in weight but in vision!!! I agree that what we put in and on our beds makes a difference in how we feel about our rooms which translates to better ,more positive rest and health!!!

But our new area cold ALL the time! *sigh* My bed I got myself a NEW comforter when we moved and NEW sheets. I'd had the same sheets before that for a few yrs and the same comforter since I was like 12 yrs old! My new one is PINK and I LOVE IT! I also have flannel sheets with monkeys. I about dyed when I found them cause (if you cant tell)I love monkeys! My bed is really cozy when cold and when hot its okay. Less is more when it gets too warm. For now its colder again so yeah. night night time for bed (for real!) :))

I have my favourite bedding for winter and my favourite ones for spring and summer...during winter I dress my bed in green because green is my favourite colour (with light blue because these are the colours you can find in the sea and I love the sea!!!)..as soon as the weather turns to warmer temperature I put on a wonderful blanket..it is a blue sky with the earth as you can see it from the space and under our planet there is a wonderful green lawn.... I don't think I am changing them very soon because I appreciate them very much...on the other hands I am changing colours and types of sheets very often...recently I have discovered some peculiar sheets made by Bassetti, a famous Italian brand, ...they are a reproduction of famous paintings from famous painters...for example tonight I am sleeping among Van Gogh's Iris!!!! And I love iris!!!

We have a blue tartan comforter on our bed, but I've been thinking for a while about changing it. I'm a huge fan of light purples and lilac colours,a dn so I said I'd like to get something in lilac and cream for the bed. I've seen a gorgeous quilt cover set that is Lilac and White and has flowers along the bottom in pastel colors. It looks very pretty but my partner complained that it's too "girly" for him. I guess it's going to be harder than I thought to reach a compromise lol. He wants something black!

LOL - I've been going through the 'blues' a bit wishing I had a partner to share life with but hey here's another advantage to being a single lady - I can have whatever colors I want in my bedroom :) How about black and lilac? I've seen this someplace and it was actually very attractive.

well yeah i have some favorite beddings that makes me more comfortable and makes me sleep fast upon lying down on it..im particular with the smoothness of the fabric it gives me a calming effect the color of it plays a secondary role on terms of favorite and comfort in sleeping..

I for one has changed my bedroom many times.I have gone country with country guilts..and then I buy a new bedspread and curtains and do my bedroom over again.I like change, staying the same gets a little boring. If i sometimes get to wanting an update and get tired of looking at my house i will change things around...The last time i had burgandy...I like real good sheets ,thick ones so i buy white, beige and off white, that way i can change my colors without always changing the sheets.I just add a new bedspread and new throw pillows..Ido know that colors has a lot to go with your moods, and the way you feel...I had blue one time and i liked that very much.

Wow, that's really interesting! I haven't really changed my bedding colors that often, but I have a couple times. I never noticed any difference though. My husband and I are picking out our new bedding though and are looking for something in purple, so I guess that's a good thing! lol

My comforters are navy blue and reversible, so I can have a solid side or print side showing. One comforter's print is sparse white flowers on the navy background (nothing too busy) and the other one is a geometric patterned border on the dark blue marbled-look fabric. I find the dark blue very calming and relaxing. Pastels and light colors in general make me anxious and jumpy - they don't encourage rest at all for me. Year round I have two comforters on the bed, and in the winter I add another blanket on top of that. I guess I just like the soft nest feeling. :) I've been thinking of getting new bedding, but the only thing I really want is more dark blue.

My bedding in my dorm is a rainbow striped pattern, cotton candy pink sheets, and a multi-colored flowered throw. It matches suprisingly enough, but I bought it because I had ruined my old bedding in unfortunate circumstances. It's not the usual me, but I don't cringe when I look at it anymore.
