Meats - Fresh or Frozen?
United States

I have an uncle who refuses to eat any frozen meat. He hates it. I will say there is a difference in taste if you pay attention, but for me it's just not feesible to run to the market or the butcher every time we need dinner meat! Do you use only fresh meat or do you purchase all your meats at once and freeze them to use when needed?

I buy a weeks worth of groceries which includes my meat and I do freeze it. My husband used to refuse to eat frozen meat, but it is so much more economical to just buy it all at once. It never fails that if you go buy your meat fresh daily, then you will spend more money by picking up items you don't need. :) Also, I like to have my meals planned out and having to go to the store every single day is NOT what I like to do. LOL

That's the truth! I always go for ONE item and come home with 3 bags! lol

It makes economic sense for me to buy meat and freeze it. I can't go to the shops every day so I wouldn't be able to buy fresh meat every day either. I try to prepare meals in advance if I can and freeze them ready for when we need them.

Fresh meat - fresh meat
I'm lucky that there's a butchers just down the road, so I buy my meat fresh most days but I do have a supply in the freezer for when I can't get there.

Wow, you are lucky! I'd love to have that option. I do think fresh meats are better in flavor, especially ground beef.

I do agree-- I love burgers on the grill right out of the package-- Not frozen- just tastes alot fresher and juicier. I do buy my meat in big packs and freeze it. It's cheaper this way and more convenient. I don't have the time to run to the store or butcher daily either- I buy groceries on Sundays-- I purchase all my meat then- Then it gets frozen. I also purchase extra meat when it goes on sale and freeze it- It is great as long as you don't leave it in the freezer too long- We date everything we put in- so we're sure to grab the oldest first.

I don't taste a difference as long as the meat is not left in the freezer for longer than a month. I always buy my meat when it is on sale, and I stock up! I am a bargin shopper and when I see something I usually buy on sale I will buy two or three of them.

I would much rather eat meat that is fresh than frozen also, but it isn't possible to do all the time. I will usually buy the family packs that are marked a bit cheaper and then seperate it when I get home and freeze it. It is much more economical for me to buy meat this way than to run out and get it fresh. In the summer I will get steak many times from the butcher and cook it that night. There is nothing better than fresh meat.

We only make it to the store every 2 wks or so so it is necessary to freeze. I don't see much of a difference in taste between fresh and frozen.

We buy fresh meat at once & freeze it and use it when we need it next time. I think that its better to buy once & freeze it bcuz sometimes, guests come & you cann't go to market for buying meat & 2ndly, if you buy full chicken then butcher give properly. Otherwise, they collect good pieces from chicken & give us ugly pieces e.g. neck etc.

We buy meat and stalk up on it. So therefore we buy and freeze and take out when we are wanting in the next day or two. I couldn't imagine having to run to the store (or use right away) to get meat for dinner. You'd be having to run to the store every other day or so just to get your meat. That would drive me nuts lol

We bought a deep freeze because we buy somewhere between 1/4 to 1/2 of an organic grown angus cow from a friend every year. It's quite a bit cheaper per pound to do this, though it's a hit in the pocketbook upfront. So obviously we freeze the meat - I can't imagine going to the store every day to buy fresh meat!

We shop for the month at a time so our freezers are full with the meat. I wish we could afford to buy fresh every couple of days but it's not economically feasible for us. Let alone I'd hate to have to deal with going to the butcher or the grocer every few days for something. It would be a royal pain. Now maybe if I could just call and have it delivered each time I might be willing but only if the cost wasn't too bad.

I order my meat in bulk and the butcher blast freezes and packs it for me. It is all labled and delivered to me free of charge. Our local butchers is very expensive and the next one is miles away from my home so like you, it wouldn't be feesible for me to travel long distances every day for a couple of chops or a round of roast.

I buy them fresh when they are on sale/special then separate them into meal size portions then freeze. It is much more convenient and I save on gas money not having to go to the store so often.

Though I would buy my meat fresh, I would freeze them so that I can use them later. I don't frequent to the market very often as it can be really tiresome. I would do my marketing once a week and buy things in bulk. I would store them in the freezer till it's time to cook them. That'll save me a lot of time.....

I buy mine and freeze it and use it as needed. There is no way I could afford to go buy fresh all the time. I buy it on sale and stock the freezer.

It's true it's so convenient to use the freezer. My mom is the same way when she is here she goes out and buys fresh meat and fresh bread. You just can't please everyone.

i do both. Ill buy fresh meat for a specific event, like a family roast or a celebration meal. Otherwise, ill go buy a fridge full of meat, freeze it, then use it as and when needed. I will also sometimes marrinate meat over night and freeze it for later blessed be

When there's a special meal we buy fresh meat but most of the time we simply freeze it until we want to eat it.

i buy fresh meat then freeze them at home. i just thaw them when its time for them to cook. there sure is a lot of diffrence in taste when its really fresh from the butcher. i try to buy some of those when occasions call like when i need to impress a visitor so i have to have fresh meat cooked.

i prefer meat fresh but it isnt practical to be going out to buy meat fresh everytime you need it so it is usually frozen and thawed when it is needed.
