New Hampshire down the toilet.

Sometimes i love nothing more than a good,"told ya so". Well, seems i have a good one now. Since the elections, our state legislature has shifted to a statist democratic majority instead of a statist republican majority. As I predicted last year, here comes a mandatory seatbelt law, a smoking ban and it even seems now that they are trying to up the driving age to 18. Everyone in their hurry to protest the president's party voted democratic and did so with out thinking about the consequences. New hampshire has always been an island of freedom in a sea of totalitarianism. But, as Massachusetts creeps ever northward, we are starting to lean the other way. This is simply NOT New hampshire. We have always believed in personal responsibility. Everyone knows the benefits of seat belts, I wear one myself. However, as an adult, it is MY choice. I plan on starting a whole new thread about this one but my prediction is the next thing in the pipeline will be a state sales tax, followed by a state income tax. New Hampshire is not about a barrage of laws too numerous to live by and it saddens me to see my state falling into the pitfalls so many other states have.

I think its time to build a brick wall in the middle of the state and at least keep the insanity from creeping any further northward, just give the southern half to Mas. Then we seperate from the union and maybe take northern maine with us.

How did you get by without seatbelt laws, smoking bans, state sales taxes, and state income taxes? Just think, you will soon be caught up with the rest of America. Doesn't it just give you a warm fuzzy feeling all over? Whatever happened to the real America?

How we ever got by without the state government saving us from ourselves I'll never know.

I live in New Hampshire. I agree with you on not making seatbelts mandatory. I am glad that they raised the age to 18 to wear seatbelts. I remember when you only had to where it if you were under 13. I don't smoke so the smoking ban does not affect me. But I do like the fact that I can go places now that are smoke free. When I was growing up people smoked everywhere. Now my 11 year old son has pretty much never been to public place that has smokers. As far as upping the driving age i think taht is something that needs to be looked into. I think that New Hampshire is too lenient in giving out licenses. I just got off my phone with my brother who is in a Boston hospital with 2 broken legs and many internal injuries because of a car accident. My brother was the passenger and 16 year was driving who was obviously not ready to drive. He had is license for a week before this happened. This is not the 1st time I have heard of accidents with underage drivers. I think the whole driving training program need to be reexamined. I hope that New Hampshire does not go the way of income or sales tax. If I wanted to pay all those taxes I would just live in Maine or Massachusetts.

My thoughts on the driving age, If the situation is turning out that many bad young drivers, then perhaps we need to look at the criteria on hiring of officials, driving instructors and the ones who actually give the drivers test. If a tester gives a passing mark to a bad driver, it is not the fault of the age of the driver, but the tester who passed him/her
