Apartment hunting as a student

Its almost the end of semester term and everyone is begining to search for places to stay. Its hard enough finding nice affordalbe apartments that are nearby to the university. Its even harder when you also need to look for other students to share a flat with. I've spent a few weeks looking for suitable places but I haven't found any so far. Hopefully I'm able to come across a place which is nice and affordable soon. The nice thing about apartment/room hunting on your own is that, you get to meet people from other countries. Its a wonderful experience. My current flatmates are a mixture of Spanish, French, Danish and locals who are very nice people indeed. Care to share your experiences in flat hunting as student studying abroad? Oh if anyone is a student at Glasgow Uni with a vacant room to let out, I'll be very interested.

What makes matters worse is that some places want two months security deposit to move in. I don't know who has $2,000+ on hand to be able to move into rat trap. I surely don't. That's a huge sore spot with me.

My current landlord was asking for 3 month's deposit. We did some negotiations and manage to get her to reduce it and accept installments.
