Dems pulling out of Debate

Edwards, Clinton and Obama have all pulled out of a debate co-sponsored by FOXNEWS. Now, keeping in mind that 50% of FOXNEWS audience is registered Democrat. Why are the candidates who are going to have to depend on a crossover vote from Republicans and moderate conservatives pulling out of a debate CO-SPONSORED by a NEWS organization? There is no sense in this other than to make the statement that they are too scared to face a more conservative audience and are not willing to try to persuade those who may not think just like them. This debate isn't on The O'Reilly factor, Hannity and Colmes, not even on The Big Story. It is merely just co-sponsored by a NEWS organization. Are they going to pull out of a debate sponsored by NBC, CNN, or ABC? Doubtful.

It is hard to debate when you all you can do is say the other guy is wrong. Fox news has a reputation of asking the difficult questions and pressing for an answer. This is what the audiance expects and don't want softball questions that can be answered with a 30 second sound bite. How many democratics ran on support the troops and then voted to force a cut and run policy on the military. How many talked about raising taxes and increasing spending. Not one that I heard about, yet the first major bill was loaded with pork and tax increases. As an example in Minnesota, Democratics tok control with a surplus and the first thing they did was to look at where they could spend the money and what taxes had not been raised in the past few years and that became the rational for raising taxes, the tax has not been increased in x number of years.

Smith, were you watching Glenn Beck too? LOL I saw the story and I'm really wondering why too. SO FOx news isn't a favorite with the liberals, but I have to wonder if the candidates would have the same answer if it were CNN co sponsering the dbates. What really surprised me about the situation with Obama(whom I support) is that one of the sponsers was also the Black Congressional Causus. I'm interested to see what the excuse will be from the candidates.

Hello Smith2028, I find it deplorable and downright cowardly for the Dem's to back out because Fox is sponsoring the debates. Personally, I think Fox should forge forward with the debate and give the lesser knowns the publicity. It'll seriously embarass the front-runners in the long run. If Clinton, Obamma, and Edwards are afraid to tackle the tough issues with 50% of the population at home, how can they be trusted in the international arena? This should be a huge red flag to anyone considering voting Democrat in the next election. Fear may be a powerful motivator, but allowing fear to dictate one's actions is cause for serious concern when it comes to our national leadership!

I think one of the biggest factors for pulling out is the fact that Fox is known for the shock factor of their news programs, basically doing just about anything to grab attention. Perhaps they wouldn't adhere to some of the rules that the Dems wanted to set or perhaps the Dems figured now was not the best time to get out there on a limb to debate issues when there is a pretty long road left to tow. Face it, at this point the Dems are in the lead all around and to even remotely take a chance of being embarassed or slip up would be silly on their part. The Republicans may be quicker to jump into the debate factor based on the fact that they are currently on a downslide because of the whole war factor and the current president and his cabinet. Our most recent voting polls proved that as the Dems moved into the position of majority in the house, etc. I'm sure at this point it is a matter of what is most feesible for the Dems and what could become possibly damaging. It's sort of like the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" attitude right now because we're still very early in the game.
