I use ceramic glazes all the time since I am a ceramist. Some of the glazes I use also contain lead maiking those pieces unsuitable for use with food. I buy my glazes premixed and ready to use. When fired it makes a glass like surface on my ceramic pieces.

I can't really get too techinical without pulling out some of my resources.... Ceramic glaze usually contains some level of silica mixed with other minerals and natural elements that when fired at high temperatures forms glass.

a ceramic glaze would be the glaze on a toilet bowl, your sink, your bath tub if it is not fiberglass. in the case of a toilet, it is a granular type of sand that melts at a high temperature to a glass like coatingg.
