The History Behind Your Family Pictures

MacArthur Hill - A monument to General MacArthur in New Guinea. My father and his friends rode their motorcycles through the jungle, and up the mountain to pay their respects.

Do you know the history behind some of those old family photographs? Here my dad and his friends pay their respects and visit a monument dedicated to General MacArthur and his men. Dad was a POW on the island of Java. MacArthur and his men played a big part in the liberation of the island. Later my Dad moved to New Guinea and learned of the monument. There's more to the story, but I don't have room here to tell it.

That is fascinating. You are lucky to have these historical photos, although not lucky for your Father to have been a POW. I find family history fascinating. I have a few old photos, although none are famous like yours. My favourite is probably of my Aboriginal G-Grandmother with her six daughters (she had 6 sons too). They are all posed in a tradional manner, with very old fashioned dresses. The photo was taken around 1917.

Wow! That is an amazing photograph you have. 1917! How awesome is that? That's what I mean with history behind those pictures. The fashions alone could be a subject for a short story, and to have 12 children. Again I must say, Wow!
