Do you like boiled egg and toasted soldiers?

When I was growing up, I often had boiled eggs and toasted soldiers for breakfast. The eggs were soft boiled and often called a dippy eggs. The bread was toasted and cut into narrow strips so they could be dipped into the egg. This was supposed to encourage us to eat our eggs and toast. I loved my egg and soldiers and I still eat them to-day. Does anybody else have egg and soldiers for breakfast?

I think they'll always be a favourite with everybody. Our kids loved them and now our grandkids are enjoying them. Enjoy your breakfast gabs and thanks for responding.

mmm, I do quite regularly but I prefer poached eggs put on top of some broken up slices of bread, mmm, especially free range eggs, that orange colour makes it so much nice, mmm

No need to apologise design. The world would be a pretty boring place if we all had the same taste. Poached eggs is another one of my favourites and I agree with you about the free range eggs - they are just a little more expensive. Thanks for your comments.

Wow, that brings back happy memories! My mum always managed to keep my yoke runny, I have tried and it's always hard in the middle lol! I used to love my soldiers as a child, sometimes I would put marmite on the toast then cut it up into soldiers. I have to admit I can't remember the last time I had a boiled egg, thanks for the idea!

I grew up eating soft boiled eggs too, but we didn't cut the toast in narrow strips. We just cut it in half lengthwise or diagonally, and then tore pieces off and dipped it in the egg. The eggs were placed in egg cups, which can be hard to find in stores today. I still really enjoy this type of eggs, and even have egg cups for them (chicken ones), which my friend gave me as a gift.

I didn't know that egg cups were getting hard to come by. I know in my house they are. I am beginning to think that the egg cups and even the spoons are being thrown in the trash with the eggshells. We have a few of those nice chicken egg cups but I would be inclined to save them seeing as they are becoming so rare. Thanks for commenting on my discussion.

My mom used to prepare my breakfast in this sort of stuffs before, and my younger brother and I loved it. :P I just don't know why we stopped having those for years now....lol uummmmm maybe because my mom thought we're too old for food like those? :P I got to go suggest this one to mom for tomorrow's breakfast. :P

Well, I hope your mom made your toasted soldiers for you. Nobody is ever too old to have boiled eggs and toasted soldiers for breakfast or even supper as the case may be. If your mom thinks you are too old for them, just tell her to give you the boiled egg and the toast and you cut your own soldiers.

I love my eggs too like that, but they have to be very hot and freshly cooked. And by the way I didn't know that you can call the toasted strips of bread, toasted soldiers. It' so cute and a more fun term to use. Thank you! Have a nice day! (^^,)
