Did you have your OJT in college?

On-the-job training are one of those activities in college that help us for the preparation in facing the real world of job. Right now, this summer, I am currently having my OJT at one of the premiere broadcasting television in our country. It's fun and I am learning a lot though it's also tiring since I need to walk for more than 2 kms uphill just to reach the transmitter site. How about you, did you have your OJT in college? What are the memories you can recall from it?

wow 2 km up and another 2 km down? what's your course? i have had 2 ojt's. one in-campus and one off-campus. i am a pre-school teacher. the first practicum was really exhausting. it is definitely an adjustment stage wherein i had to modify my mindset about work and life to fit in and eventually to share (you don't want to just take in and take in.) i was surprised about how lame books and theories were. really, i discovered that theories are just words and that REALITY is such a whole different thing. those theories and concepts that we have learned inside the classroom are just moles compared to what's up with the real world. i remember having a special child in class who would not listen and pay attention. i had a student who had the habit of hitting his classsmates. i had a kid who withdrew because of family issues. the classroom was so diverse i needed a lot of strength-- be it physical, psych, intellectual, and mention all. what made it more difficult was that i discovered that i was pregnant during that semester!!! wasnt it a challenge! i had to fight drowsiness, stomach aches, head aches, all kinds of aches, i peed countless times in an hour, and at the same time, i had to take care of my baby inside me. but voila! graduation is near for me, i have my baby, good grades, sweet/responsible husband...beautiful life.

Yes you are right, theories learned in the classroom are but a small learning, you will truly learn when you are performing the job, when you are in the real world of job. Our OJT is really tiring, it's a challenge for me. At first I hate it but now I am learning to love my job! By the way I am a BSECE student. I will be graduating, hopefully, this coming school year!

There's a lot you can learn with OJT but you will never really understand what's going on without the formal education to give you a foundation. As an example, even though I've been in IT since in one fashion or another, I'm currently enrolled in my community college to get a CCNA. I think it's that important to my development to handle our networking to do that. BTW going to the community college and getting the A/S is a lot cheaper than going to a 4-year. If you think you need the OJT, get a summer job doing network installs. The college employment service might have some leads for you and it would help paying the tuition.

I had my OJT at one of the prestigious banks in our country months before my graduation. But I didn't enjoy my work there at all. I was assigned in the New Sections account and tasked to file out forms. That was my only task and it's kinda draining because it seemed like my knowledge and skills in the accounting field were stagnant because that was the only task assigned to me. Well, I'm not looking for a more pressured work. It's just that so as not to waste my time, I want to have an OJT where I could learn something out of it. :)
