It was just announced that the 3 Duke Larcoss players were innocent of all charges. With all the national media attention to the story how will these men get their lives back? Will the national figures that were quick to acuse them of rape be as quick to proclaim them innocent and do something to make up for a rush to judgement. This is a good example that in Ameerica you are Innocent until proven guilty. These students and the Lacross team have suffered irrepairable harm and those who caused the harm get to walk away. It is just like Katrina wild reports and rumors were reported as fact. Panic and confussion were the order of the day. When is the media going to be held accountable for their irresponsible reporting of the news and in some cases trying to make the news.

You've really put your finger on a big problem! Not only do the news medias mis-report and over-report, they have done a miserable job lately of being the investigative arm we so desperately need. Too much of what we hear and read is based on the opinions of the editors/owners, and not enough on the truth. Op-Ed sensibilities seem to have bled over into actual reportage. Then again, when they aren't obsessing about irrelevancies (like I really care who is Anna Nichol Smith's baby's dad, puleeeese!!!), they fail (or are encouraged not to) to pay attention to anything else of real importance -- like congressional waste and irregularities (their [congress's] own tunnel workers were only told ONE YEAR AGO to wear masks and other protective clothing in an asbestos-permeated environment which had been known to be dangerous for 5-8 years!!!!!). It's really sad and disturbing. Lack of accountability for the lives they ruin, failure to inform us of important crimes against the people . . . they have much to work on!!

The media does not do any invesgating any more. They will wait until some one leaks a story. A good example is the Aub Grey Prison scandle. In January the Army announced that they were invesgating abuses at the prison and had releived the commander and some other who worked at the prison. When the press broke the story it was in April during sweeps week. If they had done any research they would have known that what occured was in one wing that housed the worst of the worst prisoners. They would also know that the prisoners are instructed in their training and manuals that thye should always claim abuse and torture.

I just read that, I am so glad they dropped those charges. In my heart, I want those guys to be innocent and here is why.
My son is now 21, and he played lacrosse well enough to go there and play, but his head was not in school. Instead, he enlisted.
When I saw those kids, I saw my son, in my heart, I know my son would not/could not do such a thing and though I knew none of those kids, I felt the same way about them. They got the shaft.
You are right, the media has to be accountable, this whole thing brought to mind Tawana Brawley, she tried pulling off something similar and ruined a lot of lives. She got money, I don't know if the people who got hurt ever got their lives back on track.
Not only were those kids hurt, but the team, the coach, the program and the college. SOmething must be done.
