how to build a good website

Hi, i am wanting to build a website, however i am an absolute beginner, i have no programmes, no experience, no nothing.
How do i go about it, i want honest replys not just affilate links to other free hosting websites etc.
Do i need to enlist other people to do things like graphics?
Or can it all be done by myself, will it be expensive to build a nice looking site?
I know im asking a lot but i just need to know how to get started, from there i will be off and away!
Please any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated!

My advice would be to go to a place that hosts your site and look for one that has a website builder included (I believe they offer that at www.godaddy.com)..that way you can have pre-built templates to choose from and all you have to do is add your images and text which will all be explained for you....they are usually very straightforward.

http://www.freesitedesigner.com
1.choose template
2. edit, put text picture any scripts what ever you want
3. publish
Done you have own website a live on internet
