Our neighbor gets mad at us because we let the spring wildflowers bloom out. We don't let the grass get above our knees before we start mowing, but the spring wildflowers are beautiful, colorful and we hate to miss them. We don't live in a subdivision that has codes regarding mowing, it's our land and that seems to be this guys only complaint. It's a shame he has to be so perfectly manicured in his landscape that he misses the first violets of spring. Oh wee, to each his own.

I'm with you, I love the wildflowers too. I used to go out every spring where I used to live and dig up a few wild violets just to plant in my flowerbeds. I figured if they could survive out in the wild, they could survive me. LOL I don't have a green thumb and wild plants are easy to take care of. I even had wild trilliums, bloodroot, wild onions and garlic (yes, they're edible too). I also had a wild rose once and some buttercups. Found out something too - buttercups spread like crazy and are harder to get rid of than dandelions! :)

I have nibbled on the occassional wild onion myself. As soon as the color has started to fade on the flowers we do mow our yard. Maybe this guy should go live in one of those subdivisions that have strict guidelines for yard maintenace instead of living in the country.

LOL Where I live right now, lawn mowing is included with the rent so I don't have a say when the yard gets mowed. I can't plant anything in the front yard since the area next to the house is covered with white paving rocks, but along the back of the house there's a rose bush so I'm hoping I can plant the Easter lily and the hyacinths I bought. I just have to wait for the weather to pick a season. :D In the last 2 weeks we've had summer, winter and spring - all at the same time.

I'm in the south, but I know what you mean about the seasons. However, I was pleased to note yesterday that the corn I planted has sprouted. hurrah!
