Teachers are not supposed to play favorites, but almost any group of students will tell you that teachers they know do have "pets". These are the kids who actually enjoy spending extra time with the teachers because they get special treattment, maybe lunch out or a trip to the sporting goods store, or extra help that they don't really need because they are excellent students.
I have to admit I was a teacher's favorite one year. She took me to her home so our puppies could play together and we cooked lunch together. She took me shopping. In general, we got along extra well in class.
My son is the music teacher's pet now I think. Apparently he was invited to play with the Level 5 band in a concert at another school because the teacher doesn't really like the Level 5 drummer. My son is only in Level 4. They go shopping at the music store together. During spring break, the teacher had my son take home the school drumset to replace the skins, polish and tune it to his own liking. I feel sorry for Mr. O. He sure is going to miss my son when he graduates in June of 2008!

I don't really know if I would consider myself a teacher's pet when I was a student. Teachers liked calling me for recitation because I always gave good and correct answers. They liked asking for my help with checking tests because I often get the highest scores. In fact, I didn't think they were giving me special treatment but rather they were giving me extra work just to find out if I could really do it.

Yes,i can say that teachers initially get quite impressed with me due to my good behaviour, confidence and intelligence. But as the session approaches the end and the teacher gets to know that i'm just one amongst the bright students and not the topper,he/she often gets irritated by my never ending doubts and questions.
Inspite of all this I've had the good fortune of being a couple of teachers pet. They are my class teacher of nursery(I still remember),my principal sister of high school,my calss XII physics tacher....

I found it okay because these taechers never went out of the way or never gave me special treatment at the cost of other student's time.
I found it nice because I saw it as their gesture of encouragement for my effort and hard labour that i put in studies and also in extra-curricula activities.
Whenever I saw another sutedent being liked by a teacher,it used to make me strive to work harder and better to get appreciation and acknowledgement from the teacher.I guess it's a human trait, this hunger for recognition.
Yes,if its setting a trend of partiality.then certainly it is not good,as you have rightly mentioned.
With me I didn't experience any partiality as there were many other students too who were teacher's pets.

I was the teacher's pet in my after school italian courses. I was the only one who didn't already speak italian, although i understood it a bit. THe other kids already spoke a bit of their parents' dialects, but in school, we learned the real italian, and the other kids would always use their dialects. The teacher would always say, why don't you do like Julie? She speaks good italian. And i was the only kid who didn't look italian (my dad's italian, my mom's french canadian) so all the other kids were jealous of me cuz the teacher told them to do like me!

I was never a teacher's pet. I was too vocal and I certainly knew many of them and I tried to make their lives miserable. They were always snitching and sucking up to the teacher even bringing gifts. Little horrors! BTW I am much nicer now LOL.

I don't know if I have ever been a teacher's pet... but I was a good student who got good grades. I was quiet and well behaved in class, and if a teacher asked me to lend a hand I always pitched in. I filed papers for my 4th grade teacher, I helped my 8th grade teacher clean out a storage closet... whatever. I can't say I was a pet in any way, but I was a favorite, just because I was easy to deal with.

I have been a teachers pet! I was exempted from all homework and the teacher bought me a soda every day.. and only me! I don't know why but I loved it. Everyone else was so jealous so that made me even happier! I think all teachers have their favorites. Some are just better at not showing it.

I was a teacher's pet once and I didn't feel anything different. The teacher didn't give me any special treatment or anything like that. The only difference that I remember noticing was that I had gained more trust from my teacher.
I know many other people who are teacher's pet and it drives me up the wall cuz, they would offer to run errands and do any chores in the classroom. But I didn't see any special treatment given to them either.
