Do computers attract insomniacs or create them?

Somebody asked me this today, and I don't really know. I started to take a much greater interest in the internet because I became disabled and could not take part in the interests I used to have. The more I find, the longer I spend on the computer, Other Half can yawn louder than Maria Sharapova can grunt as he drops not very subtle hints that beddy byes is long overdue. So I suppose, yes, I sleep less, but I don't lie there getty ratty because I can't sleep either. By the time my head hits the pillow I am out! So, are you an insomniac attracted by the computer, or an insomniac created by a computer :-)

I never used to entertain the Computer until I got bullied out of my Job because I was 100% diagnosed with my Disability That is when I took a basic Computer Course At the time it was because I knew I would have to get a new Job and it could not be an active one. Over the Months of fighting the Company I had worked for for 8 years I got worse, then to be told by my Doctor I would not be able to work no more, due to constantly being Ill with Infections, breathing worse, a lot worse and a few other things. So that is when I started on the Computer and everything I do and know today I have taught myself with some help from online Friends at times. I can not be as active anymore as I used so this is the replacement now for my active Life that I used to have and it keeps me sane.

Yes, the on line world certainly goes a long way to zap the loneliness and depression I agree totally there. As to sane, I am saying nothing because you are quite capable of hopping into the blondemobile and coming over and zapping me!

Yes I believe that computers do attract insomniacs, I started a computer couse to know how to do a few things on it as I had already been a secretary in my working life, but then I became home bound due to a disability as well so I had no other choice but I am not complaining as without my computer I would never been able to accomplish what I have learnt and the wonderful people I have met, also due to having family members living in different parts of the world it is a brillant idea to of created computers so that we can stay intouch more quickly than writing letters or phoning our family as much. I am the same way as you I fall asleep very quickly once I have finished from my computer.

oh you finish on the computer? I have to be dragged off, kicking and screaming lol. I NEVER manage to get everything done that I would like to do. I know it is possibly unhealthy but I also believe one day I shall have the sites I want running the way I want and that will lead to independence. My Partner says that all the people I am in e mail contact with are not business and he is soooooooooo right, THAT is my present to me for all my hard work on line!

Well, as you know, I HAVE actually fallen asleep and the keyboard, and I have the bruises to prove it. I just love everything to do with the internet world and my new friends, and it is not a passing phase because I am just as eager to get on line after two years as I was at the beginning. More so, really as now I almost know what I am doing!

LOL I think that insomniacs are attacted to the computer. I sometimes turn on my computer when I can't sleep. Sometimes it helps me get sleepy, sometimes it keeps me up. Sometimes I try reading a book, but then the book can keep me awake. So, I guess it's a good question. LOL

I know what you mean. I got hooked when my partner was away from home helping his Father (now we got him here!) and I was very lonely. Am never lonely or bored now!

I used to be an early to bed and early to rise person. Now evenings with internet and especially with mylot make me stay up longer than I otherwise have. And naturally I get up later in the morning then, too, as I am a person who needs eight hours of sleep. So I would say from my experience computers create insomniacs.

Oh dear, it certainly did create an insomniac! Have you found any new hobbies or interests, or have you taken up a paid hobby on line, since you have been enjoying the internet?
