Does anyone ever pick on you because of your size?

I am very small. I stand five feet tall in my stocking feet, and I am slender. I am often called names because of my height, apparently because others think it is humorous. Among the names I have been called are shorty, shrimp, peanut, and some other names not so pretty. *snort*It used to bother me, but then I realized that I don't mind being small. Besides that is how God made me, so I might as well be happy. There are some advantages to being small statured. I can buy children's clothing. If someone tries to break in my house I can hide in the smallest places, I can even fit under the bathroom sink. I am small enough that when BOTH my door handles broke on my old car, I could fit through the passageway in the trunk that went into the back seat. (See picture) People have a tendency to be protective of me, a definate advantage even if it is irritating at times. I CAN take care of myself. I look way younger than I am, I think because people equate smallness with youth.

kamalila, you are so right! LOL Thanks for giving me a giggle, I've witnessed that too with handing a big man a baby!

My pleasure! I think that is why I get along so well with the big guys. They can joke about my height (or lack thereof) and I'll joke about theirs.

Not safe from someone like me. My favorite is commenting on needles. Ever notice that the big tough guy is the first to go down at the sight of a needle? Or, It's funny really. How do you turn a big tough guy into a goo-goo guy? Hand him a baby. Really! I was working one of the NFL summer camps one year and one of the linemen saw me with my 1-year-old daughter. He was instant butter.

I used to get teased all the time for being bigger. I hated feeling so self-conscious about myself, and hated the way people would look at me with disgust on their faces. It was terrible, and it was happening to me as an adult. I was afraid to leave the house and go anywhere, for fear of how I'd get looked at. Even my boyfriend of the time had a bad habit of saying rude things about bigger people, and belittling them, as he was skinnier. I finally lost some weight, and feel much better about myself, and lost the loser lol. I'm happier now, and know that I can be accepted for who I am, not totally what I look like. Looks help though, of course.

It is terribly diminishing to be belittled. I do know how that feels. I am glad you lost that loser. Part of it is how we look, but also how we percieve ourselves, and having a good attitude and outlet.

I agree with you . I am five two and a half and have never weighed much in my life . I am the biggest I have ever been with my weight at 109 pounds . I have been pregnant seven times and this has never affected my weight , with each pregnancy I kept a bit of the weight but not enough for anyone to notice . In school I was often picked on due to my size as I was so much smaller then anyone in the class but they quickly realized that being small did not mean I couldn't stick up for myself as when someone came after me I wasn't scared to fight back with them . Now as an adult I don't have these issues with having to defend my size to others . There are still that make some comments but I have come to realize that is because they wish they were my size . Most bigger people tend to think that they are the only people pikced on because of their size when in fact most smaller people do also . There does not seem to be a good size , either one is too big or too small , too short or too tall . I try to encourage anyone who is trying to lose weight and can empatize with anyone who is trying to gain weight and someone who is a little shorter or a little taller as it seems to me that people are always looking for a reason to be nasty to someone else for no reason and this is the first thing they will attack .

I had to learn how to defend myself being so small. Yes, I do think some people are just jealous and some people just like to be nasty.

I think guys are more picked on for their height than gals. I am also five feet flat, and I have never experienced being picked on or being teased about it. I think this is because girls can "cheat" with their height. This means that others usually discover how short girls are when they actually get to talk to them. Otherwise, girls don't get noticed that they're short. In the case of boys, they're expected to be taller, so when they're short, they REALLY look short (that easy)! Another thing is that any person can "stand tall" no matter what his/her height is. I'm very confident and is an extrovert. I think that this covers for what I lack in height. Happy myLotting!

Well, since I am a woman and a short one, I don't know if I agree. I don't wear heels, I can't due to nerve damage I sustained, besides they are so uncomfortable. My hubby however only stands at five feet, four inches and he was never picked on because of it. But then he always had a huge attitude to make up for his height. LOL

I am also really little. Five feet even, just like you. I seem to recall I used to get picked on for being little, but not much. Really, I got picked on because I was so easy to rile up. I used to get so upset. Since I have grown, and learned to laugh at myself, no one actually picks on me anymore. Oh, I get the odd short jokes, but I laugh it off. For those that joke like that to me, they can expect to get the same treatment back from me. No one is offended or hurt, and our friendships are strong.

i am also shorter than most of my peers. when i was younger, i would get picked on because i was small. these days, since i have gotten older, people are not so into picking on other people anymore. i think i am still growing so i have a chance to get to normal height. as for weight, i just have to eat more.

Im also short and slender, dont know how to express it in feet because we use meters and centimeters. However, i had a great advantage since some yrs ago (till i was 30... i ever looked much younger then i really am). When someone was knocking at the door to sell something they were asking for my mother so, to not hear them, i was always saying my mother was not home and they were going away ;D.

When I was in a high school I was 4 foot 11 inches tall and that was when I was a senior. I was a flute player in the marching band for our high school and the smallest one in the entire band so needless to say I was picked on often and being a girl that short and small it was easy for the tuba or drum players to pick me up, which they did often, I would get so embarrashed when they did this. I have grown some since leaving high school, I shot up to a whole 5 foot 3 inches tall, although I never get picked on now for being the shortest or smallest I do remember the days when I did.

For me, the most embarassing thing was when tall people would pretend to use me as a leaning post. They's rest their arms on my head. By then, though, I was learning to laugh at myself. I had such a tiny waist back then (not anymore), I made it a challenge for the big guys to see who could completely encircle my waist with their hands. Some came close, but only one actually managed it.

I used to be picked on when I was at school because I was short. After a few years of being picked on I decided that enough was enough and put them straight with a few well chosen words. :-) nothing wrong with being a shortie

I don't really know how tall are you cause I use cm. I am 173cm tall and i have never been called names or something like that for my height. I have never been called names. Maybe I was very respected by my schoolmates so they didn't want to make fun of me. I have always helped anyone and if somebody try to bug me it didn't make anything to my feelings . I have also almost never buged someone so no one haven't had a need to make revenge to me. You don't have to bother cause everyone has some bad side. Maybe people who bug you are very stupid or have some problems so they think that they will loose them if they bug someone. Stay away of that kind of people. Your best frined is the one who never makes fun of you and who like what is inside of you ont outside. I wish you luck in your future life and don't bother for that stupid names you are being called. And don't make revenge cause it will mean that you are same as ones who bug you.

I've suffered a lot of teasing and name calling through my life because like you, I'm small. I stand 5ft 2" and people seem to think that it's funny to call me names and that I won't mind. I've been called Shrimp, shorty, half pint, pygmy and pixie amongst others. It used to bother me a lot, and there are days when it still does. My partner sometimes calls me Pygmy, and although I know he's not trying to be mean, he does hurt sometimes. My size is something that I've always been sensitive about. It doesn't bother me as much as it used to, but catch me off guard and it can get to me.

I have found that if you don't get upset about the jokes they don't come so much. I'm still called pixie from time to time, but that isn't just that I'm tiny at 5'0". I also have a pixie grin, and people always seem to think I'm up to some mischief. I'm not, usually, but I love making people think I am.

i am smaller than you, at four feet 11. when i was younger i was being picked at but i don't mind. because i believe that small things come in big packages..and as they say, small but terrible, lol! so it doesn't really matter whether you're tall or short..enjoy yourself.

Funny how that works, isn't it? My mother-in-law is average height, but no one even considers bothering her when she's got her sons in tow. The shortest one if 5'9". Then, 6'2", 6'3", and finally the baby at 6'9". I'm married to the 6'2" one.

When you stand out from what is seen as 'normal' people can see that as a reason to pick on you. I have been picked on for being fat and have been picked on for being skinny. I have managed to put it behind me as simply people always wanting to find something to pick on, I am happy with who I am

Well MY height is 5'8 but some just love commenting on every thing you have . Some do called me names beacuse i was the tallest of the all. Now what I do is just answer them firmly ..."are you jealous?" lol..!! But its like I can just accept both critics as well as praisings. After all no one is perfect. Just swing in the lifes song and live it fuuly and just live.Just be confident and then see no one will comment you ever!!

I am also very small but luckily friends does not call me by names as i am a bit sensitive and they are afraid to hurt my feelings. By the way being small has got lots of advantages like my friends take special care for me and try to protect me from what ever as they think that i cannot handle but in real i can. Anyway even though i am small i got talents that my friends does not have and i do things better in every way so, they usually respect. It does not bother me being small. Sometimes its frustrating but god made this world beautiful for everybody.

You may be short, but the good thing is you look young. Looking younger will be an advantage to you as you grow older. All the people that picked on you will be jealous of you then. You sound like you have a great attitude about the whole thing. Good for you!

it dose'nt matter that how long u are or howmuch is your hight. the only thing matters that what you are or what kind of personelity do you have hight never be a bar for the person u said in your topic that you can take care of your self it means that you are independend person that is enough. and one more thing that it is not your falt that you are small in hight. you can take example from the history . many small people ruled the world and you can also rule the world
