I love cooking red beans and rice with sweet corn bread on the side. I use the ones in a bag and it is such a comfort food. Until alittle while after. My husband has so much gas it kills me. Today I'm making red beans and rice and sending him off to work with it so he can fart there lol. Anyone else get this much gas from red beans and rice? They are so easy to make and hit the spot that I can't just stop making them b/c of his gas. Not to mention the price is so cheap for the amount of beans you get its worth it.

I love red beans and rice. I also love black beans and rice. How about posting your recipe for us. I'd love to try it. I know i can really stretch our food dollar using rice and beans instead of meat.

Very simple. We are a family of 3 so I only use have the bag of red kidney beans. I rinse them just in case they have any mud still on them. I put enough water in the pot to cover the beans and then about a cup more. I put it on 4 or low heat on stove. I chop 1 onion and let it cook for about 4 hours covered. I then cut some smoke sausage about pinkie size and add salt and pepper to taste. Let it cook for 1 more hour and it will have the smokie flavor from the sausage. If you want them more creamy then mash the beans a bit. Serve over rice. As far as the cornbread we just use a packet from the store.

Do you cook the beans in a sauce, or just stir cooked kidney beans into rice? I read about red beans and rice in a few books but wasnt quite sure what they meant. In yje UK we sometime have peas and rice, but hats just a handful of green peas put into the pan with the rice in the last few minutes of cooking, and I always picture red beans and rice as looking teh same but with kidney beans. I'm sure its something much more exciting than that though.

I would love it if you could share your recipe with us. I'm always on the lookout for a really good red beans and rice recipe.
I have a feeling my boyfriend would have the same problem as your husband. The good news is there are over the counter gas remedies that you can buy that are helpful. Might I reccomend Beano. Apparently there are caplets, but also a liquid that you can put in the food to help with the gas. I have also heard that the longer you soak your beans, the less gas there will be.
I agree, you shouldn't stop making it becuase of his gas....but you shouldn't have to smell it all the time either!
