Can MEN and WOMEN be just friends?

I'm sure,more or less,every one has stressed over this question:Can men and women just be friends?
Well,the question is complicated. Surveysshow that many romantic relationships start off as friendships. But this may be because one person is attracted to other and chooses a let's-be-mates rather than a direct approach.
A poll by women's website handbag.com found overwhelming support for idea of men and women being platonic friends.but nearly half the women said some male friends were ex-lovers and one third of women secretly lusted after their male friends but didn't act on it.
men are also likely to be attracted to their women friends - a survey by MarketTiers of 1,000 people in the united states found that one third of men fancy one close female friend.

Well, men and women sure can be just friends. Some of them might love each other, but they are still just friends.
I have lots of female friends, and they are my friends. They are good friends, the women. They are good at giving out advices. Even if one of them loves me, we are just friends. If they tell they love me and I do not accept, we'll keep being just friends!
I see no problem in this.

Why can't men and women be friends?? Yes of course they can be simply friends. I am sure even you have girls friends who are just friends.... right? There is no need for a survey to understand that some people are attracted in some or other ways(may be because of intelligences or beauty or humor or whatever) and so they are friends... For being more than a friend, many things has to be considered but for just being a friend, much less things are to be considered. So men and women can be just friends... confused??? Even i am....

I'm not sure how my male friends would answer this, but I know we really are just friends. I am happily married, and have never had thoughts of anything but friendship from other males I know. Most of my friends are men. My best friend is a man I've known since we were both prepubescent, and we've never been more than friends. Perhaps some of my friends might be attracted to me in some way, but I am in no way interested, and none of them have ever broached the subject with me. Perhaps the people in the handbag.com and MarketTiers surveys were single, or perhaps they were in unsatisfying relationships. One cannot accurately judge survey results without the demographics of the participants.
