The Tooth Fairy

What do you do when your child loses a tooth? In our family we cough up $2.00 and the tooth fairy writes a letter complete with a picture of her on the bottom. All computer generated with a lovely clip art picture. Do you think it's healthy to expect kids to believe in tooth fairies and easter bunnies? My three children all believe in them but I often feel guilty lying to them as I try to be honest with them about most things.

The imagination of a child is a precious thing, don't take that away from them. What harm can it do believing in the tooth fairy, or santa claus. Its certainly a much nicer view of the world than reality!

Can I come live in your house? lol That sounds like an awful lot of work for the tooth fairy! What does the easter bunny do???? I really do think it is great what you are doing for your children. The tooth fairy and the easter bunny are harmless white lies that are made up for little kid's imaginations, and I for one see absolutely nothing wrong with indulging their fantasies until they don't believe in them anymore! Why not let your children have something magical/whimsical to believe in that cannot possibly hurt them? At our house we give our kids $1.00 in quarters, don't ask me how the tooth fairy carries all of those quarters around, and they are stashed under the pillow of that child. No notes, just money. They are still mystified that I...the tooth fairy is so mysterious and stealthy as they try to stay up all night listening for the jingle jangle of the coins coming. lol I personally think it is all in good harmless fun, and I never held it against my own mom when I found out that she was my own personal tooth fairy and had been "deceiving" me for all those years. In my own kiddy way, I was only 10 at the time, I was actually pretty touched that she went to all that effort for me. ;0)
