I've bought a lot of self help books. They are good. Though some of them are better than others I will tell you that. Some of them are like you said, I felt like I wasted money on something a friend could have told me. Other ones are awesome and not matter how much it would have cost me I would have bought it.

i read a lot of books, some are self-help books, like motivational once. Anyhow, in my opinion, people always say learn from your mistakes. what doesn't kill you, will only make you stronger. The thing is, there's only a hand full of mistake that you can learn from your friends, or yourself. In other words, there's only a hand-full of advise you can get from your friends. Try reading, you can get good advise, good experience shared, good mistakes to be learn from, sometimes good proven methods. But still, don't neglect your friends, because you can share your knowledge and experience with them. My friend told me once. "bloom where you are planted".. don't worry and be happy.. :D

I read a lot of self help books; I tend to find some good insights in them if need be; I also feel that something you may not have thought about, you perhaps can find in there. Also friends can tell you something that can be insightful as well; but since I really like to read, I can gain some insight in there too.l
